Personally I think people being on 2 different teams takes away something from the point of the TAC.

The team feeling and motivation you get from it won't be the same.

What's the point in teams if we can be in every one? I know I'm being negative but it's because it saps my positivity towards the challenge.
Why not? For example, in team sports players play both for their clubs and national teams :) I view it like that.

You can also be in different teams for different reasons. For instance, I'd love to discuss the problems you run into while learning a minority language. I want to retain my motivation for Karelian. However, it's just one of the priorities. It will also be awesome to interact with those who speak Romance languages much better than I do, to use the languages more than I would otherwise. To help people studying my native language. IDK, to me there's something so great about sharing two not-very-related (or unrelated) languages with someone!

I do think it's kinda silly to join Team Spanish, Team Japanese, Team German, Team Italian, eespecially if you eventually drop all but one or two. You have to be sure it actually matters to you.

But the clubs and national teams don't play against each other.

I appreciate your other points though, but still don't feel good about it.

I think I'll stay with one team only. Even though there is something to the idea of for exemple every team having Iversen :-)

I'll choose my one team, but there are probably a few related teams I will keep tabs with. Unfortunately, after the first 6-8 weeks of the year, the number of people dwindle down a lot, so I think it'll work out okay in the end. =)

Rarely Studied Languages – suggested by Mani (KU, LB) in Message 12 of this
thread. I love this idea, and I’d be in with my on-and-off Vietnamese study. I’d like
to find out if some others are interested.
count me in too, with Karelian:)

A team for rarely-studied (endangered too?) languages seems tempting but my study of Northern Saami is already accounted for under Finno-Ugric.

@hribecek: I hear what you're saying. I'm more inclined to have people be on
only one team each, contrary to what I said a couple pages ago about being interested
in a rarely-studied languages team. But, like Serpent, I'd be on that team for
different reasons than I'd be in what I see as my primary team, the Sinitic/Germanic
one. Though we could just have a thread about our experiences with rarely-studied (and
endangered) languages and respond to that when we feel like it; it's unfair to, say,
Mani to create a team comprised of her and some other people with attention
divided between various groups.

And Kerrie has a great point too: odds are, a lot of participants will drop out
long before the TAC ends, so it'll end up being a non-issue.

All this is to say that I'm on the fence and thinking things over.

I'll post about updates to the current teams in a couple days. Since there are so many
big changes (new teams and their associated threads being created, mostly) happening, I
think it's worthwhile to post about it relatively frequently...but I don't want to spam
you all daily with the modified team list. :P

Would it make sense to have TAGS for each of the teams? Could we just tag our posts with the TAC team then?
