A good source for subtitles is OpenSubtitles -- I'm not sure about Japanese though.

Good Video viewers that let you use your subtitles files WITH your video files are VNC viewer (available for most platforms) and Media Player Classic for Windows (don't forget the codecs!). Google them up and come back to me if you have any problems.

I have put together a little on-line tool to do some basic work (like re-synch or glossary compìlation) with SRT format (a kind of specialized text files) subtitles. Maybe you'll find it useful or have some suggestions for improvement.

Great job with all the work you are doing! You inspire me, as always!

I am also happy to see I am not the only one who has not read "Le Petit Prince" before. I have it in Russian and French though, and it is high on my list!

Thank you everyone for visiting! It makes me really happy to see everyone's posts here
and it's really encouraging, so I'll always be glad if someone drops by :)

@Brun_Ugle: You can ask any question you like, no problem whatsoever!

1. I watch the drama on streaming sites, or if I find it on Netflix in the Japanese
section. Usually I visit sites like Mysoju and Good Drama where there are shows and
movies in alphabetical order. Youtube also has a good selection of shows, like Kurosagi
(I just finished watching the whole series a while ago, it's awesome, I recommend it ),
and you just type the name of the show to see if it's there.

2. I use a video to mp3 converter to get the audio/video for a podcast I like,
such as these: http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-Video-to-MP3-
Converter.htm,
Internet Video Manager, and I rip
audio using this. So I either
watch and repeat, or convert video and audio to keep on my computer and iPod. I
sometimes order films online, or shows, but rarely, because it's a bit pricey. So video
converting is what I do if I can already find it streaming,
and it's really easy and takes a short time to do so. Two other good tools for youtube
to mp3 conversion is http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-YouTube-
Downloader.htm here[/URL] and here. The second
one is super fast!

To edit the audio/video, 10068315.html">this and this are
really good.

3. Subtitles and scripts: Subs and
scripts. In D-addicts, if you go to the index
page, you'll find subtitles in English, Japanese, and other languages for all the
Japanese dramas we love :) You'll need Aegisub to
view the subtitle files. The scripts are like the subs in that they include all the
dialogue, in addition to a lot of descriptions, you know, as a script typically is.
For anime, here is a great source
for subs, and it includes links to other subbing sites. Also has Japanese and English
subs.

Hope that helps! Everything above is super easy to use. Let me know if you need any
help. I loved the story on your blog of how you got to create your username here on the
forum, by the way :)

@mrwarper: Thanks for your very useful comment! I know it was an answer to brun_ugle's
question, but I'll definitely be checking it out for Russian.

@fortheo: Yes, I just found out about the readers by chance, and I really love how
they're so entertaining while covering words and grammar through the stories for the
different JLPT leves. I'm trying my best to stick to schedule, but many days are
completely shot. I hope I'm making good progress. How are your Japanese studies going?
Haven't seen a new post on your log in a while!

@SolfridChristin: You inspire me too! I'm so amazed at the great progress you're
making with Russian, and so many hours! Keep it up, and I'm always looking forward to
the posts you make in your log :) I'm glad I read The Little Prince, too, and can't
believe till now how I ever missed reading it growing up. It made me pause and think
about life for a bit. I just love how books and TV/films teach us a lot about our
humanity, and appreciation for all things. But I digress :)

EDIT: Added a point.

Wow Woodsei...not only are you leading the 6WC chart again, but you're averaging 6 hours a day into the bargain! And I'm really glad to hear that all the hard work is starting to pay off, especially that your Japanese listening skills have rocketed up to the next level. It's great when you make that transition from short phrases to longer sentences, and find yourself picking up the gist without conscious translation. Keep up the excellent work! :)

@Teango: Thanks, Teango! I'm feeling more motivated now, since my previous slow progress
was weighing down on me. I'm literally bombarding myself with Japanese drama, music, and
podcasts all day and all night! It's easier now because I have summer vacation :)

And a HUGE congratulations on your marriage and PhD! Hawaii, ね? I've never been there,
but I still think it's cool :D

Congratulations on your winning of the 6 Week Challenge. :D You even beat your penultimate record of hours. I can only salute you. o.o

I tried some, but they're incomprehensible. D: But thanks for your help. Hopefully I'll be able to use them later.

@Takato: Thanks! I'm having a lot of time on hand, and I'm enjoying all the Japanese
going into it :)

I'm sorry the sites are all in Japanese and incomprehensible. You could use Rikaichan, or
even the translate function in Chrome, which isn't perfect but you could be able to make
heads or tails of it. I haven't gotten around to using them myself, since I'm currently
reading toddler books and watching tons of dramas and movies, but I'm guessing they'll be
a piece of cake soon enough! Let me know if you need any help.

Good luck, and great job in the 6WC too :)
