Here is my log for the Russian TAC team, Team Mir!
I am currently in my third semester of Russian. My goals are to be able to have basic conversations without too much trouble and understand enough to enjoy native content. I am going to Russia, so this is important to me. I am very excited to use my Russian for my trip. So today I went through the first dialogue of chapter пять of Teach Yourself Russian,
and read the grammar. I also reviewed the past dialogues, except chapters 1 and 2. I found that from the beginning I already knew the material in those chapters from what I learned at school. Anyway, I think next time I study I'll review what I learned in class. We use the book Golosa. So since this is my first real post, I will type something in Russian, just to have a record of where I am starting off. Ok, I actually wrote it a couple of weeks ago, but I will add something new that I've learned since then. Of course, please correct me! :) привет! меня зовут эйми. я живу в калифорнии, и я учусь в калифорниском государственном университете нортридж. я изучаю русский язык в университете. я люблю писать по-русски, потому что это красивый язык. но это также трудный язык! А конечно, я очень люблю изучать языки. я хочу говорить очень хорошо по-русски. ну, до свидания! As far as Italian goes, I think I will go translate a song. что такое нортридж? "в университете Нортриджа в штате Калифорния", может так? =) если Нортридж это город в Калифорнии. государственный университет в России употребляется как антоним частного, где все полностью платно - обычно считается, что там все ради денег, нет никаких традиций и так далее. И например Amy Winehouse обычно пишут как Эми Уайнхаус. но тут это уже как тебе нравится, конечно. Если Эми, то могут подумать, что полное имя Эмилия. Sorry I can't reply in Russian yet, but...in California there are "chains" of
universities (for lack of a better word) which contain multiple campuses. There are two major systems, and the one I am in is called the "state universities." The campus I go to is in Northridge so it is called "California State University, Northridge." Basically it is not an independent university but part of a large system (California State University). So I just wrote it the way my teacher forced us to write it in class. I'm sure it implies something different in Russia, though. Ah, thanks for the correction. I tend to forget that й in the middle of words! And no, there is no main one,

then perhaps it could be called отделение (rather than филиал), though usually it's used in the context of companies etc.

Interesting. It's hard to translate since there probably isn't something exactly like
it in Russia. Anyway, today I've been watching this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4JrM7uofRM (I'm sorry, sometimes I can't figure out how to make links work...) I've watched the same episode a few times, which I like to do since I tend to pick up new words each time. And I've been wondering, what do they think that contraption is? All I know is that they are very wrong, because I think they keep saying something about cars... But I really don't understand much so I could be wrong. Start watching at about 8:45. Well, that's all for now. Maybe I will have something to add later tonight. Update: Now I'm using book2. If you don't know what it is you should go check it out! I listened to the sections on "yesterday-today-tomorrow" and Activities. I learned some good words like slushat' and snova. Now I'll go learn some more! :) Dobryi vecher!
