Ok, so I've kinda been delaying setting up this log and writing my first entry because as of yet I've been avoiding starting my Polish studies for 2012... Not much to write yet! But hopefully this shame will kick my behind into gear and get me back onto the Polish path of discovery!
A little about my journey so far...
I was looking through my local Gumtree website and saw a local woman offering Polish for help with her English - unfortunately she's brilliant at English and really only wants help with pronounciation and how to get her point accross in certain situations, e.g. if she has to phone the car people if she has a flat tyre etc.
Anyway, I met with her 3 times last year, only known her a couple of months, and she's taught me a bit and helped me with my pronouciation. I've also started reading my Hugo in 3 Months book and then proceeded to get scared and run away to hide in pure fear!! After several years of being away from language learning I decided to take up Swedish... Which has very easy verb formation... Then along comes Polish which, well, doesn't! At least on first glance. So... This is probably why I haven't picked up the book since. I did however get to about lesson 5 in Pimsleur (but will go over again to refresh my memory) and I also started with MT's course. The woman and the wrong answers the student gives kinda get on my nerves though, I really don't want wrong answers filtering through my brain - the right ones are tough enough!
So... I think tomorrow I will be brave and pick up the book and also do the first Pimsleur lesson again... Wish me luck!!
Good luck to everyone else too! :o)

Don't feel too bad about the delay - we're only five days into the New Year! I've delayed my log too, because I'm still deciding which learning materials to use. I have to start with mostly free stuff because I am in a State of Dire Necessity as far as funds go, but my public library has the Pimsleur Polish short course and I'll be using that.
No need to allow Polish to be too intimidating: remember you have bison on your side! Although I have to confess that the language does looks rather fearsome right now . . . so good luck to you, to me, and to the rest of us!

Thank you Meramarina :o) I'll try not to let Polish be too daunting for me! I'm a big strong bison now afterall hehe :o)
I just (re)completed lesson 1 of Pimsleur Polish :o) I kinda remembered it all which is good, just got to make sure it stays in my brain permanently this time by not stopping the study! I feel a slight surge of motivation and determination coming on! Yey! Long may it continue :o) I'm getting my new bookcase specifically to be used with my language resources on Tuesday :oD that should motivate me every day as soon as I wake up (it'll be placed near the end of my bed). I will see all the other language goodies still yet to learn and I will feel the need to get a super grasp of Polish so I can start to play with another language :oD
I have Twilight - Zmierzch - audiobook now on my mobile phone and I plan on putting the ebook onto my ereader too :o) fun times ahead!! :oD

Congratulations on starting your log....there's no going back now!
A great site for pronunciation is here
I also use PONS.eu online dictionary because you can hear someone recite the word or phrase when you click the adjacent audio symbol.
Powodzenia!

Thanks Mooby, you're so right! I can't give up in public lol!! I love the idea of the second like you gave - sooo helpful to hear it being said! :o)
Well, today I have been a good girl again and I went through lesson 2 of Pimsleur Polish :oD altho I must admit I started to get tired half way through and turned it off with only 2 minutes remaining so I could sleep! I remembered it from last year though so I don't mind - I'll skip straight to lesson 3 tomorrow (although I'm visiting my Mum so I might not get much chance, it might have to wait).
I also had a look though Colloquial Polish and have been doing the first few pages and listening to the dialogues too - there's an extremely fast line of speech so I'm definitely going to have to play that many times in order for me to read it at speed. Must be the stubbourn streak in me :p I think I might transfer the book onto my ereader and the audio onto my phone so I can keep up with it without relying on my laptop being around...
I'm actually enjoying getting back into Polish again :o) I was worried it would seem like a chore, and even though the toughness of it is hard work, I'm also enjoying it :oD I had some depression today and I forced myself to study and it actually brought me out of it which I was really pleased and surprised at! :oD Now to make sure Polish is in my head as opposed to negative thoughts!

Well, today I've not done any language study at all as it was quite a sleepy day for me and I've just not felt up to it. Yesterday, on the way to see my Mum, I managed to go through the first section of Colloquial Polish again and was remembering more from the previous days study which was great :o) Whilst trying to sleep I was very proud of myself for remembering how to say my name! I ignored the fact that last year I had already known it but subsequently managed to forget it lol! But all is good :o)
Very excited as tomorrow I'm off to Ikea to get my new bookcase to house all my language goodies in!! :oD It's only a skinny bookcase though so I don't know if everything will fit or not... Especially as I went into my Mum's loft and found some old French learning resources that she'd given me when I was younger! Oops! Even less space now on the bookcase... But I can't wait to see them all in one place looking beautiful and enticing :oD Oh! Also in that bag was a really old Hugo in 3 Months German!! I didn't enjoy German lessons at school but I do love this series so I might have to give in... Just for a little while lol :-p but I have plenty of time for that! I need to study my Polish first (and Swedish!!). Oooh the fun I'm guna have taking photos of Swedish signs etc tomorrow at Ikea! I'm hoping they'll have some Swedish bumph for me to bring home hehe. Well, it's the closest I'm gunna get to the real Sweden for a while, so my first ever trip to Ikea will have to do :oD
Hope everyones Polish is going well :o) x

Well, last night I listened to lesson 3 of Pimsleur Polish but couldn't quite make it to the end again, only about 2 and a half minutes were left to go but I just couldn't stay awake. Polish tends to make me very sleepy, even during daytime hours. My voice and throat can get tired half way through and then the rest of my body follows suit. I'm hoping this will become less as the lessons get harder - I think I did about 6 or 7 of them last year so hopefully after a couple more lessons I should be more awake as I'll need to use my brain more!
Today I went through a little of Colloquial Polish section 1 again and am remembering a little more. One of the words which I couldn't understand very well on the recording has just popped into my head "wszystko" (just looked up spelling) I couldn't remember what it actually meant without looking, but it's the start of saying that "everything's fine" according to the book.
Seems like I'm lacking motivation already so I need a kick up the behind!
On the other hand, my daughter says I've gotten her into languages now :-p and we both went through half a Pimsleur Spanish lesson together which was a lot of fun :oD and she wants to learn Russian aswell!! I put some Russian and Spanish Pimsleur lessons onto her memory stick so she can have them on her laptop and phone... She seems happy :oD
Also, I have my bookcase up and housing some books! I can't find a bunch of books though :o( loads of foreign study aids from a charity shop and also all my Turkish study materials! They must be around somewhere so I hope I find them soon... They'll make my bookcase look even prettier :oD I enjoyed my trip to Ikea, lol, altho I resisted the urge to take loads of photos and just settled for the main sign outside and also one of the Swedish and Union flag outside flying next to each other :oD

I did the first 16 lessons of Pimsleur and found it very helpful for pronunciation. Although I had a few false starts and ended up forgetting what lesson I had reached, but got there in the end. I vaguely remember struggling to say 'Chciałbym coś zjeść' smoothly, somewhere about lesson 4, and spent many hours spluttering in frustration.
I'm glad you're getting all your learning material organised, at this rate you'll be visiting Ikea again very soon.
Powodzenia :)
