Whoever decided to jostle 8 pages each into three language lessons wasted two chances: one, of making the book have more lessons: if every portion of the text became one lesson of their own, we'd have at least 20 more lessons in a total of 50, quite respectable for a Georgian textbook, half the average of an Assimil book; another one, of motivating the learner to keep going, because we'd have shorter lessons to accomplish and we'd also have a story split into several parts, and that is motivating in itself.
While this does not happen, I'm still stuck at lesson 31, currently at page 4 out of 8. Since I have to translate every other word and sometimes check the German translation too, this is going on very slowly. It's not being useless though, far from that. Now I finished this neverending text about the trip to Kachetia. Now yet another long lesson awaits for me, #32. Only 2 left, then I'll be able to start over with another book. I hope I can have more practice during the second semester, I still keep my expectations high as of being able to reach an intermediate level by the end of the year, and, more than never, I feel motivated to try out other texts, after going through so many extensive ones!

After going through those mammoth chapters at the end of the Lehrbuch you'll probably find real texts pleasantly easy!!

I hope so, Tixhiidon! Now I need to reread the log seeking for advice on which texts to start with.
book2 მიუხედავად ამისა and მიუხედავად იმისა: any big difference in meaning? First one translates as "nevertheless" and the subordinate clause contains მაინც. Second one is "although" and subordinate clause starts with რომ. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Believe it or not, I finish Lesson 32 from Lehrbuch der Georgischen Sprache. Now all that is left is lesson 33, which is shorter. I hope to go through it still this week.
Then if all goes as planned next week I'm going to start over with two books. One of them is going to be Hewitt's Learner Grammar at last, i think it suits my level and I only hope not to spend much time on exercises. The other one would gladly be a resource with audio. I don't want to do Aronson's or Tschenkeli's or the Newspaper Reader (the ones for which there is audio). I'd like to do the Georgian Language and Culture: a continuing course, but I think there's no audio for that. My idea is to combine a normal textbook with a resource that is more relaxed, less structured and has shorter lessons. I have been doing book2 and Lehrbuch and that worked well. When I had no time for Lehrbuch, I could still resort to book2 and avoid spending one day with no Georgian at all. Where can I find news broadcasts (edit: or podcasts, could be radio, no need to be video) with transcripts? The Radio Tavisupleba website has many articles with audio which is almost identical to the written article. The speakers tend to be extremely fast, though. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

No problem, I'll focus on reading, it's just for me to keep myself accostumed to the sound of the language. I've only had sentences since I finished Beginner's Georgian and no actual dialogues or texts.

Tixhiidon, I gave it a try and it's incredibly fast, it's unnatural! I don't think it will help me get used to Georgian conversation at this time. Still, I think I'll be able to read those short pieces of news for practice.
I was getting subtitles from TED in order to make billingual texts, but that still won't solve my problem of lack of audio. 1 person has voted this message useful |
