I've decided to start this log because I've been browsing through my Georgian books in the past few days. I still haven't made up my mind as for which book to use. I'm used to learning languages through short lessons as in the Assimil method, and I find it difficult to use books that present a lot of vocabulary and grammar before the first exercises, like Kiziria's, Aronson's and Hewitt's. So, I plan to keep on doing bits and pieces of each of these books until I feel comfortable to advance. There are some other books in Russian and German too (which I actually like better), but I don't feel comfortable to learn by reading at those languages. I hope to post here my impressions and whatever doubts I come across. I'd appreciate the help of native speakers as well as other learners who have gone through the same difficulties I will face from now on. Wish me luck! Hi Junesun! Sure I still remember. Glad to hear from you!
My other languages are still going on slowly. Actually I can only speak bits and pieces of some Romance languages. I dropped languages for several years, and have been working mostly on improving my English. Then when I resumed languages, I decided to take things slowly, not beyond my capacitiies. I started learning Mandarin actively last semester from the Assimil book, and this has been my main concern. I'm also working on improving my French. It seems that Georgian will still be on and off, but I'm glad that I've found people who are actively learning and helping each other right now, after so many years of little access to resources and to native speakers. I still need to learn to read German and Russian, so I can have access to the best textbooks for the languages of the ex-USSR in which I'm interested, be it kartvelian, north-caucasian, finno-ugric, turkic, indo-european... ============================= So, today I did lesson 2 of book2. I'm slowly becoming more accostumed to the alphabet. I want to be able to read it without having to mentally spell out letters, but this shall come naturally. I (re)took Hewitt's lesson 01 too. That's a great idea to find books in Russian/German. I hadn't thought about that. I just might get one in
