Once I've decided how to sort out the Scandinavia trip (and Oslo was on the list of
destinations), I might have to take you up on that offer. In fact I'm planning to do a
circular tour of Scandinavia by train (more or less like I did in Russia, except I won't
fly home). I have already decided that Copenhagen, Malmö, Oslo, Göteborg and Stockholm
are on it (not necessarily in that order). But we will see how it all pans out. I do have
a few objectives for this trip, both linguistically and culturally.
But I have more urgent matters to take care of. It is either that trip or one to
Romania/Moldova I will do next. I have many travel plans, I just need them to crystallise
a bit.

I haven't studied a lot of languages still, but I do get some opportunity to chat or
write in a certain amount of languages each day besides Dutch and English. I've also
made a habit of looking up topics in French rather than English, because a) I
understand French very well, so I won't be left doubting and guessing towards the
meaning of a word very often) and b) English is boring.
I've managed to have regular correspondence (by chat, messaging, or otherwise) in:
- French
- German
- Breton
- Swedish
- Russian
lately, and I still occasionally see some Romanian too.

OK. Despite what I've been telling myself over the last months, I have finally settled
on a structure for language learning for the coming months.
I have dropped all languages for now, and may return to them later (and finish off some
textbooks), but for now I will not continue deeply with Hebrew, Icelandic or Breton.
Breton I speak enough of that I can converse in writing, so Breton will be fine.
Icelandic I haven't studied or maintained. I will have to return to it when I have
time.
Hebrew is a problematic intermediate language but I can do something in it, which means
that I will return to it - it might be a part of a new 6WC challenge, but this will all
be in the new year. It won't be for now. Although I will seek out opportunities for
social Hebrew practice.
So.
I have found myself the challenge that I wanted to set myself, and that is the
following:
I am starting Korean!
Why Korean, you ask? Over all the other languages I already have resources for?
Well, I wanted an Asian language this time. I want to push myself to the limit with
this new language because I want to show that every sort of language can be learned,
and Korean has a reputation for being hard! I want to debunk that myth. Korean is a
human language spoken by human people written with a human alphabet (mostly). And I
wanted to turn to a part of the world that I have never been to, don't know much about.
My only experience with Korean is a flight through Seoul back home from Russia! I don't
know a single word in Korean right now and I have only had a cursory look at hangul!
But, as you know, I plan to become conversational in Korean. So the coming weeks, I'll
take it easy and learn some hangul while I focus on other things, but when fall really
rolls around, I will start with Korean seriously.
"But what about your other languages, tarvos?"
Don't worry. I am working on my French to become really very good at that language and
am taking courses to eliminate the small errors that still remain in my French. I've
already achieved a solid B2-ish level in French, I can deal with almost all of it.
I will return to Romanian at some point soon to finish my textbook of Romanian (it's
not that long) and then go on to do some practical conversing to keep my Romanian up to
speed, since that is a language I actually speak fairly well.
For now, Swedish, German and Russian have no priority, but I always speak Russian
frequently so there shouldn't be any obstacles for my development. Even if they
deteriorate a bit, some of them will get a refresher somewhere during the coming months
or years.
As I said, Icelandic is a side-project I can't devote time to at the moment. I also
don't have the motivation to get into that language at the moment - maybe it'll come
when I get rid of some of my other textbook backlogs."
Hebrew maintenance will be the first challenge in the new year.
So! Guys! Wish me luck! My Korean challenge STARTS TODAY!

Great choice, tarvos!
Studying an Asian language is just a whole different learning experience compared to a European language. I made this experience with Japanese. It's not impossible to learn it, but it just takes more time, because everything is so different. I don't know about Korean, but Japanese grammar is quite logical although very alien. It will take time to learn how things are said properly, because our IE logic doesn't apply to the language. And then there is, of course, kanji, which aren't really a problem in Korean.
Anyway, I wish you best of luck! I would like to learn some Korean sooner or later as well, but I'm busy enough with the languages I'm already learning. I also thought about reducing the number, because it's just too much and I have a lot of other projects going on, too. So, I fully understand the step you've taken.
Keep us updated about your progress in this crazy beautiful language!

Er. Korean has Hanja. But they are used less. I think. And I won't focus on them
initially.

That's what I meant when I said "they're not really a problem".
