I really should not be posting this, but, here goes (and no, the grand update will have
to wait until tomorrow)

- I studied Hebrew demonstratives,
- and I also reviewed the Breton lessons for today.

a tendance à devenir ennuyeux chaque leçon.

Faisons le tour des choses importantes en breton;

svenska.

Hebrew

And I studied some Hebrew yesterday as well. I will do some more Hebrew right now
actually. I just feel like it. And I won't have as much time over the weekend.

There is not much to report. I have completed some things over the weekend; gotten up
till lesson 73 of the Assimil passive wave (24 active wave) - 73 consecutive days of
Breton and counting.

My Hebrew is slightly less disciplined, but so far I have gotten in one lesson every
two days. I am on track still. But soon I will only have an active wave in Breton (in
February somewhere) and then I can focus on Hebrew, which will also be my focus for the
6WC in February.

My Russian is improving by leaps and bounds every day and I am starting to feel a
certain fluency coming to life; the language is finally clicking into place. I have
especially written a LOT of Russian lately and it's showing - structures are coming out
fluidly, chats are possible, and I can easily have conversations that are also deeper
in nature. I notice that people are now privy to using more complex structures and
words with me; they feel comfortable that I will understand them. I also do not have
the feeling I am stumbling while speaking Russian; I can pretty much spit out what I
want in one breath. My higher-order vocabulary is still terrible, I make some
grammatical mistakes and not everything is perfectly idiomatic, but this is becoming
more and more usable by the day and I am finally breaking through a bit of a plateau
into good Russian. Also in my spoken Russian it feels more natural to speak now. But I
have noticed recently that speaking is easy for me in any language; it's the listening
that is terrible.

The same has happened to my French. I am now comfortable speaking it without
hesitations and too much trouble. I am perfectly functional and conversational, though
not entirely mistake-free and I lack idiomatics. Higher order vocabulary and more
obscure terminology are more likely to be known in French. I also think my French
pronunciation is a lot better than my Russian. But the situations are incomparable; IO
have spoken and learned French for a much longer period of time and the culture is so
much closer (also there is so much more that I can render in French and talk about; I
know what it's like to struggle to speak it and not know head from toe; to live with
French people and not know what the f**k happened to the bathroom because it flooded).

I have the feeling I am making progress still. I also spoke some German to Josquin
earlier today and I am still astonished that the gap between speech and writing in my
German is so huge for me. I feel quite inconfident writing in German which is a weird
feeling. It's one of the reasons why you see so little German here (also because I
scarcely use it).

I have decided to upgrade my Russian to basic fluency status. Not because I believe it
is perfect, but because experience is telling me more and more that unbridled
conversation is possible without strain for either party. This does not preclude me
from making mistakes, but I feel much more at ease in Russian than I used to do. Words
that I need to look up are becoming the exception rather than the norm in colloquial
conversation. Longer, more complicated texts still pose some problems. I have already
abandoned using course materials for Russian, I did that a while back - but the
reinforcement I am getting from writing and speaking in Russian daily is such that I
have the feeling people will be able to communicate with me in Russian.

I'll give the best example: last Saturday, I came across two Russians who were lost in
my village trying to get to the Hague. They didn't fully get my Dutch explanations
(they started) but I noticed they were speaking Russian so I just repeated my whole
mantra, fluently, without hesitating, in Russian, taking them aback and leading them to
wonder where the hell I was from. This is a typical "on-the-fly improvisation" which I
feel is key to speaking a language. I do not consider myself FLUENT in Russian, though.
I will simply say that I "speak it". In the same way I "speak" German and Swedish and
these languages still contain a ton of mistakes when I speak and write them. But my
level is such that maintaining friendships and conversation is possible without
trouble.

And that is why I am upgrading my Russian.

My Breton and Hebrew are not progressing quickly. But that is okay; I am not expecting
to find Breton speakers in the near future and I just started Hebrew. But my Breton is
getting better and I am improving that devil language of mine, French, at the same
time. Sometimes (like on Sunday) I have the idea I speak French. Sometimes, I have the
feeling I am still lacking some things. But French, for all its idiosyncrasies, is the
foreign language I master the best and it is the language I can do the most in, as well
as express myself the most accurately (and with the best grammar). And I am posting
this now because tonight I will be spending my life doing things which involve more
than words and grammar, but hopefully I will be able to interpret body language
instead. I should learn body language instead of Breton...

Some corrections, if you care for them.

Я тоже прочитал -> Я также прочитал : Unless you mean you and someone else who also read it, you should use также to indicate that this is something you did in addition to other things you did.

This word should not be here. I can't even guess what you were trying to say.

-> This means "I don't think so/like that." And it's not clear what you are referring to. If you wanted to say "I try not to think like that or I try not to think about that" you should probably say "Я стараюсь так не думать" или "Я стараюсь об этом не думать".

Again this says that "you don't lose", but it's entirely unclear what you're not losing. Insert the word for what you're not losing, ex.:

: "продолжать с учением" is correct, but unusual to say it like that. Also wrong construction for "until".

Means there's nothing for you to talk about using Russian language. If you wanted to say there's nothing to say about your study of Russian say "Ну о русском мне нечего сказать." о русском = about Russian, на русском = in Russian.

Congratulations on upgrading your Russian status! It's great that you've been able to put it to use in your local area as well!
