I'm debating going into the military and maybe for a linguistic job, if I get in. Even if
I don't. It wouldn't hurt to learn them. Is there any recommended books on Farsi? I was told Colloquial Persian would be good. Sadly there is no Michel Thomas Farsi/Persian. D: 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Languagetransfer.org use a very similar methodology to Michel Thomas and I think they
plan to release a Farsi course. Edit: if you really want to go into these languages more thoroughly you may want to check out http://jlu.wbtrain.com/sumtotal/language/DLI%20basic%20cours es/ Sadly I can't see any relevant FSI courses up at http://fsi-language-courses.org yet. @ zekecoma, Is it Farsi you want to learn specifically first? With the three languages mentioned I am going to recommend the obvious audio method of Pimsleur for all three languages as an introduction. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Well I have no problems with any middle eastern language. Any of them would be fine with
me on learning. I have no problems getting people to read it, speak it. Although it'd probably on be on IRC and Skype. I did wanted to do Arabic though, but like I said. I don't really care either way as long as it's Middle Eastern. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Farsi and Dari will be much easier to learn than MSA or an Arabic dialect. Middle eastern languages, African, and Asian languages are currently the in-demand ones for linguists. Russian, for instance, is actually considered "full" more or less, though it can vary by service. European languages also.
