I never actually encountered an example of Chiac until a friend of mine sent me this link today. I found it so interesting I thought I'd share it here:
Un couch en queer burgendy Here's the Wikipedia article on Chiac. I notice this couch ad was placed in New Brunswick. Do most people from this area actually speak like this? I also find myself wondering if the English words they use have more of a French accent, or the French words have more of an English accent... or if there's a whole new accent they use, perhaps? Also, what would a language like this be called? It doesn't quite seem to fit the definition of "pidgin" or "creole"... although I admit I'm completely out of my depth in this area. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |

Radio Radio sings/raps in the dialect, it's hiphop but it is a good exemple, remember that the French it is based of is also far away from standard French.

My god this looks strange. It looks like the written french variety of "Spanglish."

I love Jacuzzi!
I remember watching a documentary about Chiac. One surprising thing is that, although it looks like a mixture of French and English, many speakers aren't comfortable in either language. 2 persons have voted this message useful |
