The English manual edition is made now with cds, but same course. I recommend this course for learning Russian. One of the best self-study course for Russian.

Is this the one you are talking about?

http://www.amazon.com/Russian-PDQ-Quick-Comprehensive-Course -
Linguaphone/dp/0747309000/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=133 5245035&sr=1-2

I had that bookmarked for some reason, and could not remember why. I figured I must've
just come across it at some point on this site. Would you care to expand at all on why
it is so good? It looks like I can get it for around $30, but my Assimil Russian just
came in the mail and my used Pimsleur and Michel Thomas are on the way, so I'm not sure
if there is still a gap that it'd help to fill?

Also, as an aside, does anyone know what PDQ stands for? haha

Elexi, I have some questions for you:
1) Are the "New Format (for Business Use)" meant for beginners or are they some sort of follow-up to the 30 lessons
courses from the 1970s?
2) Are they similar to the "Second Stage" courses?
3) Have you used any of the New Format or Second Stage courses? If so, what do you think about them?
