As for manga I am totally out of my depth. How many mangas would those of you who know manga be able to read in the same time as you read a book which had between 100-500 pages? 4,5,10? |

Hmm, it's a while since I've read one in English, and I've yet to read any proper books in Japanese. I've checked Tadoku though, and that counts a manga page as 1/5 of a book page, so I guess we could go with that - a manga from 100 to 500 pages counts as 1/5 of a book, 500 upwards counts as 2/5. That seems reasonable.

Since I originally assumed that there would only be 3-4 people joing this (if any), and it did not consist of little bits like in the other two challenges, but of large chunks (half or whole books or films) I figured we could simply use a thread here, and keep tabs ourselves. ( For instance: I finished a new book today which takes me up to 14 books, and yesterday I saw a film which takes my count up to 12). Something like that.
If this gets as popular as it looks, I will see if anyone can set up something when I get back from Spain. I am afraid I am a technical analphabet - but if anyone is able to help I would be Super happy :-)

I'm probably in for Hungarian, although I think the 100 books will be way too many for me in that time, because most of my reading time is spent on other, higher level languages.
Is it possible to watch more films to take my overall total up to 200? Or could there be separate tables for just books and just films?
I'm not trying to cause problems, I just want to be in it and have a realistic chance of actually managing it.

Well, since it is possible to run a half marathon, I do not see why it should not be possible to do a half Super challenge? You could enter with just films.
The point here is just to challenge ourselves to read and see/listen to way more than we usually do - just like the other challenges. So even if you enter with both films and books, and you read 20 books in your TL and not 4 like you normally would have done, that is still sucess as far as I am concerned. I just thought I would try the "aim for the stars" approach, since I have seen how enormously beneficial the 6WC and the Tadoko challenges have been for me.

This is an amazing idea! Count me in with Japanese. 100 films (or 200 TV shows) should be reasonably easy to fulfill but 5 books a month? That's going to be tough but I bet even attempting it will help me bridge the gap between B1 and B2. I'm looking forward to it!

That is why it is the Super challenge :-)
I am just at A2 with Russian, and can barely ask for a bottle of beer in a bar, but I have been longing to get to B1 for about 5 years, and I may be delusional about the possibility of victory here, but I am counting on this to push me into the B1 and possibly dip my toes in B2.

This is a very interesting thread! Give me a day or two to decide if I'm up for the challenge (and if so, in which language(s)).

Such a fantastic idea for a challenge! I'm up for attempting it with Spanish. It looks like I have an excuse to indulge in Almodóvar films now. (:
