That awkward moment when you own no books in a language and are considering switching it to a classic half challenge... Well I've already done that with Croatian, lmao. but Romanian and especially Danish are more difficult to read.

do you allow me to switch Portuguese or Italian to a half challenge? :D

Sure, if you pick another Romance language to balance it out.

Ouch, is that evil of me? :-)

I've just realized that the advanced challenge is only scaled down for the comparison, but the numbers displayed are correct. I always thought Cristina's 53 movies meant she'd watched 106 actually :)
Preferences/ideas? This way, if you sort by books read or movies watched etc, the items count the same regardless of whether you're fluent or far from it. I'm not even sure what my own opinion is...

I've just started to read for the challenge on my Kindle. What are people doing about numbers of pages?

For the book I'm reading now, I found a print edition with 221 pages, but I read a suggestion that you should divide the number of locations by 20 and that gives 124 pages. In terms of the speed I'm reading the book at, 124 seems a bit more realistic as it feels like a short book. It also seems a bit easier to calculate something rather than having to find the number of pages in another edition of a book.

Any suggestions? I'm struggling with real books right now (i.e. physically holding them), so will probably be reading on the Kindle for a bit, well except in Japanese...

You may want to compare the font size you're using vs a typical book...

I can never figure out pages on kindle. I usually look up the page numbers on Amazon or Wikipedia, then just
use the percentages they have on kindle to figure it out.

There is a little problem arising from the existence of several topics on the Super Challenge: the rules are not the same depending on which thread your read.

Total info reference : Every book counts as long as it is 100 pages long. If it is less than 50 pages, it counts as half a book. If it is more than 200 it counts as two books, more than 300, 3 books etc.

General discussion : Every book counts. If it is less than a 100 pages, it counts as half a book. If it is more than 500 pages it counts as two books.

Registration : Every book counts. If it is less than a 100 pages, it counts as half a book. If it is more than 500 pages it counts as two books. 100-499 = 1, 500-749 =2 books, 750-999 = 3, etc.

Also, for a future challenge, I think may be it would be better to have something more balanced between books and films. The book requirement seems so much more difficult than the film requirement because it takes way longer to read one book than to watch one movie. For example, reading Harry Potter while listening to the audiobook could be registered as 2, 3, 6 or 7 books depending on the rule and edition or 14 movies.

The 500 page rule is old, otherwise I don't see much of a controversy here. With the bot available, most just seem to count the actual number of pages read, arguably turning this into a mega tadoku:) One thing is that any book under 100 pages counts as a half-book (or 0.7, 0.8 if you prefer to be more precise), unless you do rereads. For me 40 or 60 pages is the same as 50, if it's a full book from cover to cover. Starting with 70 I'll be tempted to reread half the book and count it as a full one.

Agreed about a balance. Although I see no problem with the various ways of counting the same activity - I'm now listening to HP in Danish while following the book, but I'm not even doing a Danish books challenge so the choice was obvious.
