Hmm, in the past week I put in only a paltry 4 hours of study (including the hour and a half mentioned in my previous post). That brings me to 34 hours total. Oh well: I know I'll do better this week!

---

From now on, as far as I'm able, I will write my log in French.

My fiancée and I are going to a concert tonight, 290 km from here. But I have to work at 4 AM tomorrow morning (I get up at 3)! I think I will be taking a nap tomorrow.

[Does one say "à demain" or "de demain" or simply "demain"?]

The whole idea of writing journals in French is catching on I see!

I think it should be "autant que je puisse" or just "autant que possible" as opposed to
Of course I'm just another learner, albeit at a relatively advanced level, so don't
trust my responses too much!

I like watching the news in French even though I only catch probably 10% of the words. Interestingly, I sometimes have an easier time understanding the parts where normal people on the street are being interviewed than when the newscasters speak, probably because many of the normal people speak more slowly. I try to pick up at least a few vocab items or idioms in each broadcast. Today I caught the phrases "gauche caviar" and "chiffre fétiche."

Well, the last couple weeks have been a bit of a bust! I've hardly done any intensive study, so I don't think I've advanced much in the language, though I have been watching the news and lots of movies, so I don't think my understanding has declined much, either. I've decided I'm going to set up a schedule of sorts and see how that goes; I believe things may go better if I make my study more regimented. Anyway, I am sitting at roughly 40 hours right now. I think I will start logging all the (usually pretty substantial) "non-study" French input I get as well.
