What courses and products have you'd discovered late into your language study, and thought, "If only I'd known about that earlier" ? My current list would be,
Hungarian Learn Hungarian - This is one of the few courses that really engaged me, and I only discovered it late last year. It pains me to put it on hold. Russian Linguaphone Russian - After my previous experience with AllTalk and PDQ, I was wary about their products. This course opened my eyes to how they built their reputation. Italian FSI - Italian Familiarisation and Short Term Training. I knew there was no Italian Basic Course with drills, so I was surprised to discover their FAST course has some model drills. I only discovered this last week, and wish I'd found it sooner. What courses have you found late into your language studies, and wish you'd discovered earlier ? Not a language product as such but I wish I had found Anki when I was still at school. It
really has changed my approach to language learning and is now an important part of vocab learning and practising grammar exercises that I make for myself. I wish I had discovered Assimil earlier too rather than using classroom text books and cheap "Speak X in a month" type courses. Cannot wait til exams are finished and summer so I can get stuck into my new Assimil Russian lol. How are you finding the Linguaphone Russian course? Would you reccomend it? The course is good, but I haven't used in a few months. I also purchased Assimil Russian recently but haven't started it yet. I'd recommend the Linguaphone course but it is expensive and the material dates from the 1970's. I liked it for it's crisp audio. Once I return from Italy next month, I'll try out the Assimil Russian course. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Earlier editions of Assimil, Linguaphone and Teach Yourself courses. I also would have learned French since more Assimil courses are available for French speakers.

Perhaps it doesn't count since it's not a book/product, but... This forum (and the
Internet language learning community and blogs in general). If I had found out earlier that there was a big community of people discussing the best ways to teach yourself languages, I would have wasted far less time at the start of the journey. Obviously a big part of the learning process is still learning which methods work best for you personally, but the forum at least gave me far better ideas than I had previously, not to mention the motivation from seeing many other people achieving similar goals.
