"One way to look at Yoda's syntax is that it shows signs of favoring OSV syntax (Object-
Subject-Verb) as the basic order in the simple clause. In fact one could call it XSV
syntax, where the X is whatever complement would appropriately go with the verb, whether
it's an object or not."

Japanese is neither OSV nor SOV, it is just (whatever)V. Subject is being omitted if possible, same goes for everything else, if there's only a slight chance to do so.
Getting used to that kind of "reducing to the bare bones" really helps, especially while speaking casually.

You've only been studying for a few months? I don't know how much your studying but if it's a normal exposure of about 1-3 hours per day then it's quite normal that you're having the problem you're describing. This was many moons ago, but I had the same trouble with German. I would only hear the tail end of what was said and this lasted for a very long time (a few years) and it was frustrating! I didn't notice, however, that the whole time the sentences were getting longer and more complex. You may be understanding more than you think, especially at such an early stage :)
