I went to UCLA for undergrad. They have a lot of hybrid linguistics B.A. programs, and
the one I chose is called Linguistics and East Asian Languages and Cultures with a
concentration in Modern Japanese *gasp for breath*. I was also working toward a minor
in Germanic Languages but ended up dropping it because I couldn't afford to stay in
school any longer.

Since graduation I've been working in Japan as an English teacher, but since I feel
anxiety in social settings, I want to transition into freelance Japanese-English
translation.

I loved being a student, and I dream of going back to school (preferably abroad) for a
Masters degree. There are so many fields I'm interested in that I don't know how I
could decide on just one, though!

I graduated in 2009. I'm going to send you a PM now. That would be crazy if we were
classmates!

I started out with a Middle East Studies major and a Religious Studies minor at McGill,
then transferred to the University of Otago and graduated with a major in Anthropology.

I thought this thread would be brimming with anthropology majors, actually, and I'm a
little disappointed to find out I'm alone! I ended up finding my dream job in teaching
ESL (so far in Korea, Palestine, and Turkey), so if I had a do-over, I'd go for a degree
in English or education instead.

There have been quite a few Linguistics majors so far, and this might be part of the
Anthropology department depending on the university.

Personally, I would have loved to study Anthropology! The 3 courses I took as an
undergrad easily rank among the most fascinating classes that changed my view of the
world.
