When I decided to take his book, I was in doubt whether to pick L'anglais des affaires or Business French. That is, there's also a lot of business vocabulary in English that I have to learn and find interesting as well. So, I could either used an English-based book for learning French (this one) or a French-based book for learning English. Either ways, I'd be learning a lot in parallel texts. It would also be a chance to improve my listening in English which is terrible, specially when it comes to the British accent.

I ended up picking the French book following the advice of friends, but I'm still reading the French, processing it, then going to the English dialogue and learn how it is expressed in English. Business French, unlike othe Assimil titles, doesn't have literal translations, but rather proper, contextual translations. This way I know both sides of text have valid, coherent rather than bookish language.

It would be way better to use a Portuguese-based course. Not only it is my native language: when translating from English to French (second part of exercises), I realize it would have been much easier if I had thought in Portuguese instead of thinking in English. Some expressions are literal translations Portuguese-French (SA for public corporations but also some verbs). Maybe I'd write Assimil and convince them to release one version of this course for the Brazilian market.

Meanwhile, I can't stop saying how pleased I am with this book.

Pas de grandes nouvelles dans la leçon d'aujourd'hui. Ma compréhension devient encore meilleur. J'ai décidé de ne plus écrire les exercices de compréhension du texte, pour que je puisse finir les leçons plus vite tout en continuant à faire une leçon chaque jour. Je vais faire ces exercices uniquement en oral. Les exercices de traduction sont toujours assez importants et efficaces et j'aimerai bien continuer à écrire toutes les réponses.

I was using MS' spellchecker at Skydrive, but today I tried "BonPatron". I'm sure there are others around for checking both spelling and grammar. I had only a few mistakes at the paragraph above (assuming the corrector got them all) and the explanations were very useful.

I'm not sure yet this website corrects verbal and noun agreement as well, and I'd like to try a few open-source/free ones, if there are any. Any suggestions?

La leçon d'aujourd'hui a posé un petit peu plus de problèmes pour la compréhension oral, mais rien d'échappant. Comme j'avais dit, j'ai décidé de faire seulement l'éxercice de traduction par écrit, l'autre, je ne l'ai répondu que mentalement.

Lessons still seem very useful. Today it was about salesperson. Not a career I'd like to follow, but it is still useful to know the vocabulary involved in it.

J'ai trouvé l'utilisation du mot "exprès" dans le cas ci-dessous, et je voudrais savoir si c'est vraiment la façon la plus usuelle de rendre en français la traduction anglaise "specially":

"Anne est allée exprès en Bretagne pour écouter les deux délégués (syndicaux)
impliqués dans le mouvement"

Il me semble que l'utilisation française est un petit peu idiomatique.

I'd like to come up with a new example and to check whether it is correct:

That sounds good to me, although I think it should be "je suis allé" or "je me suis
rendu" not
"je me suis allé", I'm not convinced that "s'en aller" is appropriate, but I'll
wait for a native French speaker to confirm it for both counts. "Exprès" can mean
either deliberately / on purpose (e.g., "je ne l'ai pas fait exprès!") or
"specifically" as in your examples.

edit: you could perhaps also use "spécialement", but "exprès" just sounds better to me
in these cases...
