Azerbaijani: aparmaq (< alıb varmaq)
Turkish: alıp gitmek, götürmek English: to take (and go / arrive) This word is not used in written Turkish but it is a famous word from the city dialects and Evliya Çelebi's quote: "Geçme namert köprüsünden, ko aparsın su seni." 2 persons have voted this message useful | |

Az. güzgü (Turkic origin)

My impression of Azeri is that it has retained a number of Persian words not present or no longer current in Turkish. On the other hand, here and there it has some Turkic words not present in modern Turkish.
Sometimes I watch Azeri TV channels. I can more or less understand the language, through its close relationship to Turkish. It seems to me to differ from Turkish about as much as Scots does from standard English, or perhaps a little more. 1 person has voted this message useful |
