Sampier85, the other commenters are right that assimil has a best method, but it should also be enjoyed and
absorbed. That said, perhaps instead of focusing on the entertainment factor decide what you want for your
German and commit to the assimil method as you would to bad tasting medicine. Focus on what performance
abilities assimil can give you.

Good luck!

My favourite free resources are Mission Berlin and Deutsch? Warum Nicht:)
As they're free, it totally makes sense to try them out.

I like Mission Berlin as well. I have used it to improve my Polish. I downloaded the program to my hard drive so I can use it without an Internet connection.

Doctor Blair's programs have you pretending to be a secret agent and having to learn the language so you can carry out a mission for your country.

I think I was successful in using Assimil German Without Toil because we were booked to travel to Germany and I had to learn the language to survive. But, I enjoyed the process with Assimil as well. I wouldn't have enjoyed it if I had to spend a week or two on each lesson.

I'm currently doing the Assimil German course (I'm on lesson 21 at the moment). So far, I'm not having problems doing a lesson a day, as the method dictates.

Before starting Assimil, I did the Michel Thomas Foundation Course (now called Total) to get a feeling of the language.

I'd suggest you to stick to the prescribed method (passive wave and active wave).
You'll find some discussion and variations in this forum, but what you've been doing so far (5 lessons in 3 months) seems wrong.

I seem to be progressing nicely: two days ago I picked up a graded reading book (A1), and I was delighted to find that I could understand most of it, also when listening to the CD.

I'm creating a Memrise course with the vocabulary I learn (up to lesson 18 atm), which you may find useful.

You may want to check also Luca Lampariello's posts.

I haven't tried Mission Berin, but I was really disappointed with Mission Paris. A few
years back I listened through most of Radio
D
, which I found to be excellent. In fact, I'd say it's the most enjoyable free
course for German I have found. The learning curve isn't very steep, but it prepares to
for listening for clues in the setting and not just in the words. Each episode is about
20 minutes long, and there is quite a collection of them.
