Hey everyone :)
I'm a giant poetry nut (don't know how many of you are out there) and I'd really like to get to know more poetry in different languages. I like what I term "Romantic" poetry (but I guess that's not the right use of the term). Examples in French would be Rimbaud (though he is Symbolist), Baudelaire, Verlaine etc. I can't really find good German poets of this genre, but in Spanish I am a fan of the more modern Luis Munoz and Garcia Lorca. I do like some controversy in my poets (haha, hence above examples), and I think many of you HTLALers do write poetry, so do post your poetry as well! And I love Kavafis...his reinventions of Ancient Greek poetry in the modern language are awesome. (Maybe I shall gather up the courage to post my poetry in English) Anyway, this thread is basically for all poetry, in all languages, by all poets, amateur or professional, famous or obscure. Please do recommend your own favourite poets and their poems :) Let's create a poetry reference that learners can use to enjoy the subtle poetic nuances of their target languages! Hi, catullus_roar. I'm a huge fan of poetry and I write it as well. I'm probably too bias since almost all the poetry I've read was written in Spanish. As a consequence, the authors I like more are Spanish speakers. Nonetheless, I can read poetry in Galician too, and I've tried some poems in English, but they're a bit hard for me yet (I've tried mainly Whitman and Lovecraft). Also, one of my favourite poetess is Wislawa Szymborska, which was actually from Poland! Of course, I can't read her in her native tongue, which is a pitty...
In Spanish there are so many different poets and poems that is hard to decide. I invite you all to my favourite website of poems written in Spanish. It stores A LOT of them, both original Spanish poems and traslations: A media voz. One romantic Spanish poet was Espronceda. His "Canción del pirata" is still very well known. There are many others which I like more, though. All the same, his technique was so great that I think he's almost the only author whose poems are possible to declaim aloud with a big energy and inflexion. There too many poets to point out just a few... Anyway, take a lift around the page and pick up some poems. 1 person has voted this message useful | |
