When I lived in Japan one of my Japanese friends gave me a book that was designed to help Japanese people learn English expressions, and so I've used it in the reverse. The book has used the volitional form + っと to mean "I will Verb".
I think one of the examples they had was, メイク、しようっと。 This was translated as "I'm going to put on my makeup."
Is this a commonly used form, and if so, could any of you explain it a little better? Is it only used by women, and if so, what would a man normally say?

Thanks

It's another slangy expression, often shortened to しよっと (i.e. without the final う). I'm not sure what the と
indicates. Maybe と思ってる? It means something along the lines of "OK! Time for me to get off my lazy
ass and get something done!" and in this respect it's often prefaced by よし!

Again it sounds quite cute and friendly, maybe a little bit childish, but as I'm sure you know cute and childish
are by no means negatives in Japan (!) and I've heard plenty of men using this as well as women. Probably
not one to be used around your boss or in a group of twenty-something cool guys though!

It's short for と思う
しようっと = しようと思う
"I think I'll do.."
