Week 39 Review (Sept 22 - 28)
Japanese: 5 hours, 30 minutes French: 2 hours Bengali Script: 1 hour, 45 minutes Week 39 Total: 9 hours, 15 minutes 2014 Year To Date: 544 hours, 30 minutes Slacked off this week. No progress in French, just some listening. Bengali script, I'm working on chapter 10. Week 41 Review (Oct 6 - 12)
Japanese: 5 hours, 15 minutes French: 3 hours, 15 minutes Bengali Script: 1 hour, 45 minutes Week 41 Total: 10 hours, 15 minutes 2014 Year To Date: 569 hours, 15 minutes Progress Japanese Assimil Lessons: 11 / 99 (+1) Jpod101 Newbie Dialogs: 151 / 151 (finished) Jpod101 Beginner Dialogs: 46 / 339 (+10) Japanese Sentence Patterns: 34 / 142 (+1) PMP Basic Japanese Chapters: 4 / 8 (no progress) Wanted to do more, but I got caught up doing very unproductive things this week and the grammar and workbook stuff fell by the wayside. French Assimil Lessons: 30 / 113 (+4) Teach Yourself French Chapters: 5 / 25 (+1) FrenchPod Newbie Dialogs: 69 / 69 (finished) FrenchPod Elementary Dialogs: 0 / 52 (no progress) Easy French Reader: 6 / 62 (no progress) For French, all but Assimil didn't get much or any attention. I did watched 5 episodes of season 4 of Engrenages (French Crime drama). So far, I'd say "It's okay". Bengali Script Teach Yourself Bengali Chapters: 12 / 12 (+2, finished) This has taken forever, and it was because I drastically overkilled it. The first 12 chapters of TY Bengali teach the writing system. It gives several new "letters" and then 25-35 words and phrases are given in romanization and you write out in Bengali. So of course, I just had to put ALL of them in Anki and that took time and it's taken way too long. This week I was far more picky in what I put in Anki and finished it off. I will still do my Anki reps for Bengali. I still do them for the Russian script, but by now I only get 1-3 reps a day and it takes ~30 seconds to do them. Bengali will soon dwindle down to a handful of reps daily to the point that it'd be meaningless to count the time. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Week 42 Review (Oct 13 - 19)

Week 42 Total: 10 hours, 45 minutes 2014 Year To Date: 580 hours Progress Japanese Assimil Lessons: 11 / 99 (no progress) Jpod101 Newbie Dialogs: 151 / 151 (finished) Jpod101 Beginner Dialogs: 52 / 339 (+6) Japanese Sentence Patterns: 34 / 142 (no progress) PMP Basic Japanese Chapters: 4 / 8 (no progress) Only advanced some of the beginner dialogs, but the length of them has jump up quite a bit. Had a few that were a minute and a half long. French Assimil Lessons: 32 / 113 (+2) Teach Yourself French Chapters: 5 / 25 (no progress) FrenchPod Newbie Dialogs: 69 / 69 (finished) FrenchPod Elementary Dialogs: 1 / 52 (+1) Easy French Reader: 6 / 62 (no progress) French In Action videos: 2 / 52 (+2) Started watching the French In Action videos. Bengali Script The amount of reviews and time I'm spending on this has dropped quite a bit in just a week. Enough that I will stop recording the time spent on it now and label it completed (but like my Russian deck, I'll keep doing my reps). Next up: the Greek alphabet. Week 43 Review (Oct 20 - 26)

Also, I lied about learning the Greek alphabet and am going for the Georgian alphabet instead. Progress Japanese Assimil Lessons: 12 / 99 (+1) Jpod101 Newbie Dialogs: 151 / 151 (finished) Jpod101 Beginner Dialogs: 56 / 339 (+4) Japanese Sentence Patterns: 34 / 142 (no progress) PMP Basic Japanese Chapters: 4 / 8 (no progress) What little I did this week was spent on Assimil and Jpod101. French Assimil Lessons: 34 / 113 (+2) Teach Yourself French Chapters: 5 / 25 (no progress) FrenchPod Newbie Dialogs: 69 / 69 (finished) FrenchPod Elementary Dialogs: 1 / 52 (no progress) Easy French Reader: 6 / 62 (no progress) French In Action videos: 2 / 52 (no progress) Just a bit of Assimil progress. Georgian Script My only Georgian resource is Hippocrene's Beginner's Georgian, and that just has a brief intro to the alphabet. I'm trying to take letters and words from the book and making my own progression similar to TY Russian Script and the first part of TY Bengali. Korean and German Review Just like last week, just reviewing bits and pieces here and there so I don't lose it. Wunderlust: Finnish Just dipping my feet into Finnish a bit. I have TY Finnish and Hippocrene's Beginner's Finnish. Week 44 Review (Oct 27 - Nov 2)

Like I don't know what I'm doing, I'm not making progress, I'm never going to learn any languages. Not surprising that I'm feeling this way after a few lackluster weeks of being spread out thin. This week was much like last. I just didn't feel like doing much of anything. Week 45 Review (Nov 3 - 9)
Japanese: 4 hours, 30 minutes French: 1 hour, 45 minutes Korean: 1 hour, 45 minutes German: 2 hours, 15 minutes Georgian Script: 1 hour Finnish: 30 minutes Week 45 Total: 11 hours, 45 minutes 2014 Year To Date: 613 hours, 45 minutes This weekend, I was all set to spend tons of hours studying, but then on short notice, I went to a hockey game on Saturday. On Sunday, I decided to try to tackle subs2srs again. After several hours of tinkering with it, searching for subs and exporting a few decks, I finally tamed the beast and have a few workable decks. For German, I have a 1100+ card deck from the movie Die Welle. For Japanese, I have a ~650 card deck from the first episode of Dragon Zakura. If every episode yields that many, I'll be getting about 7000 cards out of that J-Drama. Tried finding subs for Cowboy Bebop, Rurouni_Kenshin and other anime I've seen but no luck. Outside of Dragon Zakura, all of the subs I found were romaji. I also had zero luck finding suitable Korean subs and I haven't looked for French subs yet. However, being a bit inspired by the subs2srs format, I made a few audio sentences decks. I've been adding a lot of audio to my extensive listening playlists, and this includes tracks that are just sample sentences like the "Exercises" in Assimil, for example. Just a series of sentences with no narrative flow. And every time they would come up, I would get a bit annoyed, lose a bit of focus, etc. There was no story to follow, even if for just 15 seconds. What I started doing was chopping up these tracks of sample sentences and including them in Anki decks. On the front, just the audio, and on the back, the text for the sentence and its translation. For French, I've been using the Assimil "Exercises" and the Korean deck is made off TTMIK sentences from the lessons and the audio from Korean Grammar In Use (which has one section of a few sample sentences, and a second called "In Conversation" which has a few 2 line dialogs which I've also been putting into this deck). Have you tried looking for the Japanese subtitles here?
