Hello all!
I am trying to learn Dutch right now, and am running into problems. I am very motivated to learn it, however can't find ways that I can grasp the language. I practice every day, however, sometimes I feel discouraged, because my grammar isn't good in it, and I feel stupid while speaking to native speakers. ANY SUGGESTIONS APPRECIATED! I learned the grammar using the website DutchGrammar.com which I find awesome! Helped me a lot at the beginning.

Did you treat it more like a course, or another resource while learning the grammar rules

Actually I began my Dutch studies there, and used it like a course for a couple months. I usually like to write things down to my paper notebook, so what I did was basically go "chapter by chapter", read the page, summarize it and copy it to my notebook. Some pages were so well explained that I just copied the whole thing.
It took me some time, but I believe it was really worth the "effort". After completing the website, I started with Assimil Dutch With Ease, which is great! I've been using it since then and it helps a lot with the vocabulary and listening comprehension, live situations and so on, but I believe I'd be struggling much more with the grammar if I hadn't taken the DutchGrammar.com "course". Assimil's strength isn't usually the grammar. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Do you feel your fluency is fairly decent? Or would you say that you'd still be

That's an actual issue. I can chat without problems, understanding about 90-95% of the conversation and being able to maintain it. But when it comes to speaking and understanding spoken Dutch, my abilities are far from ideal. We don't have many Dutch people here in Brazil as far as I know, so I've never had the chance to practice it in real life. I've made some Dutch and Belgian friends on the internet, so in the near future I'll probably try to pratice it with them via Skype.
But anyway, I'm only half through Assimil yet (lesson 58, just started the active way), so I think I'll be much better when I finish it. I think it should be easy for you in terms of vocabulary. I recommend lots and lots of reading with a pop-up dictionary. With the Firefox browser, install the "Wiktionary and Google Translate" add-on for words and the Globefish add-on for sentences.
