I understood exactly that, tarvos. It's impressive. I've been studying Georgian for 1 year and 4 months I'm nowhere near B1. As for Chinese, almost two years and maybe a low A2. Norwegian since August and maybe a high A2 now. Russian since November, when I was a faux-débutant, and maybe reaching a low A2. I was about to write another long post at my log. I do need to figure out what I am doing wrong. Maybe I'm spending too much time on repetitive subjects instead of moving on to more advanced ones, but then I can't retain much from what I learn and that is what pushes me to reviewing.

Keep in mind that for Russian, I used three textbooks, and I supplemented it with lots of
internet chat and message-writing, and I have also been conversing regularly through Skype at least once a week. I also followed Assimil Russian to the letter; I didn't miss a single day as I recall. It was pretty intensive at times. The thing that jumpstarted my spoken Russian though was booking lessons on Italki and speaking. I still make plenty of mistakes, but they don't hinder communication at all and I do not have problems understanding things being said to me, although complicated Russian slang is beyond me of course ;) I've also found Russians locally to talk to every once in a while and I regularly converse on the net with Russians. I'm at 62 active for Chinese with Ease.
I don't think Assimil Chinese makes any claim about getting you to B2, and I'm thinking A2 is the best I could hope for. Still, if I do achieve fluency I think I'll regard Assimil as a tool that was an important part of the success. O Novo Francês Sem Esforço - Leçons 36-42:
I think this one was the funniest block so far. Pretty much all the lessons were very funny and very useful as well. I'm having some trouble remembering or trying to reproduce some vocabulary and expressions, but I guess that's what the active phase is gonna be all about. To remedy that, I'm taking a new lesson eveyday, and before listening to it I listen to the previous 2/3 lessons in order to make it stick. It's been helpful. The review lesson was ok, nothing special, just a good review about time and hours. I'm glad that now with my new job I've been able to make time to take Assimil lessons daily. Finally! I'm about to start the active way of Assimil =) I'm excited about it! So, this last block was definitely not as funny as the previous, but on the other hand it was full of new vocabulaty and idiomatic expressions, which made me struggle more with almost every lesson. My listening comprehension at the first time decreased considerably, from 60% to even 25-30% in one of the lessons. Some things that I noticed: - For me it's impossible to pronounce the verb "accueillir" and its conjugations. - A LOOOOT of new idioms were presented, which is good, but hard to remember. Apart from that, the review lesson was very short and easy, talking about the participle and passé composé, but veeeery superficially. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I'm still here too, at active wave lesson 66 of Assimil Roumain, but busy doing other activities rather than Assimil. But I haven't given up on the book.

I'm still on board, too, but I'm struggling with the lessons I'm working on. Have you ever felt like you're doing your best, but your best just isn't good enough? That's how I'm feeling right now. I'd really like to master this group of lessons, but it's not going well.
Isn't that the truth! Dutch With Ease has so many idioms that I had to give up trying to remember them all. I'm glad they're included, though. I've already come across one of those idiomatic expressions in the Dutch novel I'm reading, and I only understood it because I had seen it in my Assimil book.
