Another quick suggestion. My wife didn't speak any French when I met her -- and we
continued to speak English together to this day -- but she learned French very fast
because we would often visit my friends or have them over and we only spoke French
together. I never felt sorry for her or tried to protect her from this situation; on the
contrary, I let her be submerged in it. We'd play games or cards and she'd be exposed to
a lot of natural language and she'd try to reply since it was an informal setting where
we were having fun. So if you can, try to create situations where your boyfriend has his
friends over and everyone speaks Dutch, and take it all in.

Think to yourself in Dutch during the day. Even simple things like "it's cold outside" or "I need to buy potatoes" will help sharpen up your thought process.

It sounds like your boyfriend is very supportive of you efforts to learn Dutch. You could choose a time during the day when you speak only Dutch to each other at a level that is comfortable to you. It just takes time. Your bf didn't become an English speaker overnight.

Make every effort to visit his friends and family with him. That way you will be exposed to a large amount of the language. Even if you just passively listen most of the time and chip in with a word here and there....it's a start.
