I am learning japanese. I have spent 40 minutes on each language I am learning. I have
been wondering, how much time should I spend on japanese? Should it be an hour?

ajatt.com.
or at least, spend as much time as possible on languages. if you have an hour, spend an hour. if you have 2 hours, spend 2 hours. if you think you don't have 2 hours, look for them and cut back on your native language.

The amount of time you spend studying is kind of irrelevant. You could spend 1 hour wasting your time on something you already know, or 10 minutes on a lot of new material. The real measure of your progress will be a factor of how much new material you acquire, and how well you retain it.
I was never one to study for long periods of time, but I spend a lot of time thinking about what I study (mostly through self-talk).
