Would anyone have an interest in forming a team of French learners who are prepared to commit on a reasonably regular basis to participation in a log to which team members bring forward some minor new thing of a super short, super practical nature for the group’s benefit, consideration, response or discussion. Perhaps even little spot quizzes - with the answer either spaced down a bit within the same post or to be posted in a subsequent post by whoever suggested the quiz. All with the dual purpose of learning and also keeping one honest by at least a squib of French on a regular basis.
Things like: - Does my translation of this sentence look correct? - I came across this sentence in French – any idea what it means? - Quiz: subjunctive conjugation of “pouvoir” - How would you say “(English word or sentence) “ in French - Would you use passé composé or imparfait for the following - I came across this interesting “faux ami” (or other French language fact) recently: - Came across this cool you-tube video on how to pronounce the all-but-impossible “R” sound We could even collate some of the awesome advice or links that get traded quite regularly across numerous separate threads and disparate logs into a one-stop shop for cool French stuff (e.g. I see from {member} in another thread that French in Action is available again on the Annenberg site (and then provide link). Something like this would help me with a commitment I am making to do some French every day in 2013. I would suggest really short posts and issues, as that may increase the likelihood of checking in frequently or daily. Team name? If there is an interest in forming a team, perhaps we can put our heads together subsequently for a team name. If a name is needed temporarily for organizing purposes until then, may I take the liberty of suggesting Team Fed (F.E.D. = French Every Day) on an interim basis, as we would be learning together in a “team-fed” environment. I'm not sure how serious you are, Spanky, as I've learned not to take much of anything you say seriously.
I don't know that there will be a team so specific as what you suggest. There will probably be some sort of Romance languages team. It's hard to tell yet if it will be further divided into specific languages. I'll assume that you are expressing an interest in being on some sort of team where it is acceptable to study French and sign you up, unless you have some objection. UPDATE: As of now, we have about 20 people signed up for TAC 2013 and 1/3 of them are on the Russian team. What is it about Russian? I have to agree that this is exactly the correct approach to take concerning me generally. I have to be serious so much in my real life that I treasure the opportunity occasionally to be somewhat less so on the interweb. While I do think there is merit in an approach as suggested in my previous post, I do not wish to complicate the TAC organizing process, so I will not press my suggestion and would be pleased to be considered for inclusion in a TAC team, either a general French team (if one is organized) or otherwise a Romance team. A) Russian is a cool language and Russians are so nice and welcoming B) We have had a really great team this year - and a lot of us want to continue next year C) And we were a big team last year too - we actually had to stop taking new members at one point - I really hope that won't happen this year, as we look forward to lots of new members and fresh blood 2 persons have voted this message useful | ||||||

You obviously had so much fun last year that I wouldn't be surprised if more people wanted to join. It's like a party over on Sputnik. If the team gets too big, it could be divided into two. I didn't take the TAC 2012 (nor any other), and I think it could be pretty nice to take the next year's one. I haven't been able to browse all the messages here, since my connection is too slow, but I hope there will be some sort of Germanic languages' TAC.
I am interested in continuing studying German, as well as picking Dutch. English too, though I'm not at the first stages with it. Of course, I'd take a Galician TAC too, but I doubt there will be one! 1 person has voted this message useful |
