Any suggestions of good books and audio to use for Italian? I am open to paying, so it
doesn't need to be sketchy stuff just because that is all that is available online. I won't be L/R-ing for a while, but wanted to plan ahead so when the time came, I could just order away. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I've LR'ed the Picture of Dorian Grey and enjoyed it a lot.

Serpent, thanks for the website suggestion! I feel dumb, but I always thought the best
LR-ing was to do it in a book native to the language you chose! If that doesn't really matter, I think I may just have to find myself an audiobook for "The Count of Monte Cristo" and "Of Human Bondage" since they are my favorite books! 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

There are plenty of non-sketchy resources online for Italian; see my free, legal audiobooks thread, which also has a link to a parallel text for "I promessi sposi". I tend to use liberliber or librivox, but they're not the only sites on that list for Italian.
All else being equal, LRing something native to your target language is better - but all else never is equal. Having a text you enjoy is very important. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

I've always found books translated from your native language to be easier to read. One way to approach it is to use them as a stepping stone to books written by writers native to your L2.
The first two Harry Potters have Italian audiobooks. There is also this newish firm that makes Italian audiobooks: emons. I've bought one and it was well done. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Not necessarily from your native language? I definitely prefer things translated from English to those translated from Russian.
