A couple of links for those Pax members learning French:

This might be particularly useful for folks who've studied/speak European French (e.g. via Assimil, etc.) and are travelling to Quebec. (And, of course, vice-versa; but I believe here on Htlal there are more members in the former category than the latter.) There are short articles, a dictionary section (click on the actual words/terms to get full explanations, including indications as to which usages are FR and which are QC), a games/quiz section. And a short (text) snippet from Radio-Canada about the 2014 edn of Le Robert, with particular mention of Canadian/Quebec terms. I'm still hanging in there. Haven't been updating much, but I've been working towards finishing the reading part of my Spanish Super Challenge. I never realized how much 10,000 pages was! :D

I did great.
I went from never having had a conversation in French to having had a couple hundred. I went from hardly being able to understand any movies or TV shows to being able to understand most of them most of the time. I went from being able to read slowly and with difficulty to being able to read at a reasonable pace with good comprehension. In August I visited Paris and never had communication problems. Rather than diminishing as I progress through the intermediate stage, my enthusiasm for the French language is only increasing, and I see next year being at least as good as this one has been. 3 persons have voted this message useful | |||

My Spanish has grown by leaps and bounds. I'm almost finished with my Super Challenge reading. I'm surprised by how much reading has improved my ability to understand everything I hear.
French has fallen by the wayside, but I think 2014 is going to be the year to focus on French for me. Even though I didn't accomplish everything I set out to do, I am happy with the progress I made. :D 2 persons have voted this message useful |
