Hello all,
I am new to this forum and I've just started to teach myself polish using resources on the internet. I have also tried a few phrases of Hungarian in the past, but even though it is apparently of equal difficulty to Polish, I could not remember more than yes and no. Hi sammymcgoff, welcome to the Forum. And especially welcome as a fellow Polish learner.
In the FSI index of language difficulty for an English speaker, Polish is in the second hardest group. It's pretty hard in other words! Your big advantage, living in the UK, is that you should get lots of opportunities to practice with the large Polish immigrant population. Check out the Polish Profile for resources and more comments about difficulty. And most importantly.... ...become a bison. Join The 2013 Polish Team!! aka 'Team Żubr' in honour of Poland's resident population of European Bison. Join the Team by registering here. As a team member you will need to write a log throughout 2013, and read / comment on other members' logs. I can recommend that you begin with something that includes a lot of audio and that might serve as a kind of
introduction period in order to get the feeling of the language and break the ice, so to speak. Either Assimil or Pimsleur. Whenever you feel bored with these methods, you can move on to something more complex and thorough, which includes more grammatical observations and explanations, exercises and so on (either something like Teach Yourself or the Hurra Po Polsku series from Prolog). 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

hey, nice to see a Polish learner. I suggest getting something like teach yourself .i learned alot through
cartoons and films. i also suggest getting the Hurra po polsku series when you have a working knowledge of Polish i has helped me greatly . where in the UK are you from? 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Another question on the language. What is the meaning of the word płodny? I've never quite understood what it means..
