I just got Teach Yourself Complete Italian in the mail and just remembered I did the
Teach Yourself book for Swedish a few years ago. At the time I was dating a Swedish girl
and I remember that she told me a lot of the language that they used in the Teach
Yourself book was not common everyday language that Swedish people use.

I am wondering, would those of you that are more familiar with Italian and how it is
spoken in conversation say that the Teach Yourself Complete Italian book is accurate? Am
I going to be learning things that people do not use in everyday conversation?

Thanks,
Kadin

I pretty much think that all of the teach yourself series are all unused language because its very formal, not
the language used between natives day-to-day! I think, however, that all of this language is useful and we
should learn it even if we are told by native speakers that we shouldn't.

I had a flip through that book a while ago. The language looked relatively useful; indeed a bit more on the formal side of things, but still everyday stuff that's good to know and build upon.

IMO, it's better to learn in a more formal manner than being to casual as you might ended up in unpleasant situations with the later.
