Hi,
I am trying to find a cheap option for making Anki portable. Right now I have it on my computer but I really don't like sitting around in my room using it very much. I would really like to get a portable device so that I can use Anki flashcards anywhere. What is the cheapest device that would support Anki? Ipod touch and iphones are like $200+ ... Does anyone know of anything in the $50 - $100 range? (I am in the U.S.) A little hand held device similar to those little poker games/blackjack games but which was an srs device would be SO awesome..... Do you not have a smartphone?
If, like everyone and their grandmother, you're considering getting one in the next year or so, then waiting until then would save you whatever money you spend on another device. One of the great things about Anki on droid phones (iphones too maybe? Dunno) is that you can write on the screen while reviewing, which is great if you're learning a language with complex characters. Pretty much any android phone will be able to run ankidroid. It only needs a base of
1.5, which is super old by android versions. If you go to amazon.com, for example, you can find several decent quality mp3 players for around 100-150 dollars that are capable of running ankidroid. Most run ver. 2.2 and above. Personally, I'd go the android smartphone route, though, but that's because I prefer to carry around only one device. R. == 1 person has voted this message useful | |

There are many 7 inch android tablets now available for below $100. For example, this one has plenty of positive reviews.
There are even 5 inch android tablets available for around $60. Just go to amazon and type in "android 7 inch tablet" and choose whichever one takes your fancy. Any of them would be able to run Anki for you. Edited by Splog on 30 December 2012 at 2:58pm 1 person has voted this message useful | |

You have to check for the US but I've seen the android phone ZTE Blade S at 70€. I don't have this one, but the previous version (without the S). It's a quite good phone, with a good screen and reasonably fast (but obviously not at the level of the 500€+ phones).
Actually it was by far the best quality/price ratio I could found at this time (I paid it 120€), and far better than any the other cheap equivalent product. Its biggest drawback is the autonomy. Edited by jean-luc on 30 December 2012 at 9:46pm 1 person has voted this message useful | |

You could also go on Craigslist or something and find a cheap, used smartphone -- maybe a
MyTouch 3G or something. It won't run much, but mine used to run Anki, although not at the most ideal speed. 1 person has voted this message useful |
