The Czech word order is a bit complicated. Good but long explanation has the wikipedia.
In short: the simple neutral sentence is SVO (subject/verb/object) neutral sentence than has "the known information" at the beginning and "the new information" at the end. Subjective sentence has "the most important information" at the beginning and "the least important information" in the end. And - the closely bound parts (old house - starý dům) cannot be "interrupted" (also very old house - "velmi starý dům"). But the same logic is used for sentences. If one action results in another one, you cannot simply split it in two. You need to "finish" one action and "start" the another one. Now, an example from your writing: Během mého pobytu v Praze jsem nestudoval češtinu. Neutral meaning. Previous part writes about the stay in Prag, also "během mého pobytu v Praze" is the "old information". The action is closed, all the information is given. The same structure is used, when "during my stay" is the most important part. Usually, this is the case, this is the reason why the time information is in the beginning. Češtinu jsem nestudoval během mého pobytu v Praze. Not ideal construction, but we are emphasizing, that you had perhaps studied, just not Czech. I am expecting a continuation, the "action" isn't finished here. Putting "..., dělal jsem něco jiného." is such closure. Nestudoval jsem češtinu během mého pobytu v Praze, ale mluvil jsem docela dost česky s českými kamarády, a díval jsem se na českou i na slovenskou televizi. Perhaps this is the best way to translate the English sentences into Czech. It needs to be kept together: You didn't study but ... . The whole idea cannot be interrupted and connecting the sentences with a comma signalizes the "togetherness". Again, the "not studying" is important for you, neutral would be the word order from the first example, making the "during the stay" slightly more important. Nestudoval jsem češtinu během mého pobytu v Praze. Again, somewhat clumsy construction and I am expecting a continuation. "Correct" way would be either the previous case, or "Nestudoval jsem češtinu během mého pobytu v Praze, nebyl čas." You are highlighting the "not studying of Czech language" and giving a reason (no time). 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Ahoj Chápu, proč sis myslel, že hříbeček znamená "little foal", ale ve skutečnosti původní slovo bylo "hříbek" ne "hříbě". Hříbek je druh houby, ale nevím jak se řekne anglicky, vyhledal jsem to a našel jsem "bolete", ale nevím, jestli je to spravné. Vybral jsem to, protože jsem chtěl něco hodně české! Chtěl jsem ve slově "ř" a v té době jsem zjistil, jak češi jsou odborníci na houby. Také se mi líbílo ceské zdrobňování a proto jsem si nakonec vybral "Hříbeček". Další menší důvod byl, že moje kamarádka to říkala svému manželovi a pak jako sranda s tím také začala moje manželka! Znamená něco "stelingo"? @Majka Děkuji za vysvětlení a link (?). Moc zajímavé. Nové a staré informace také mají vliv na slovosled přidavných jmén v románských jazycích. Ten koncept chápu ale není lehké zavést do praxe při mluvení.

No, platy učitelů na státních školách jsou mizerné, na soukromých jazykovkách je to
různorodější. I proto spousty dobrých učitelů ze škol odcházejí. Některé školy zaměstnávají rodilé mluvčí, ale obvykle to není jejich jediné zaměstnání. Ohledně petard v ulicích, zcela chápu tvé znechucení. Já byla tímtéž znechucena na silvestra v Berlíně (to už je tak deset let zpátky). Bohužel, tohle není nikde žádné překvapení, lidi jsou hloupí. Co mě ale nepříjemně překvapilo, byly labutě zraněné od oficiálního pražského ohňostroje. Velmi smutné, ukázka bezohlednosti a idiotismu. Mmch (=btw) jaktože jsem nečetla tvůj minulý log? Jsi naprosto skvělej. Taková sbírka jazyků a na takové úrovni... to teda zírám. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I wrote this a couple of months ago. Thought I would add it to my log, if anybody would care to correct it, that would be great. For some sentences there is more than one version, as I wasn't sure which would be the best way to express what I wanted to say. Hopefully it isn't too confusing.
Με λένε Steve, είμαι 43 χρονών και έρχομαι από το Μπόλτον, που είναι μια μικρή πόλη περίπου 10 χιλιόμετρα από το Μάντσεστερ στη βορειοδυτική Αγγλία. Τώρα μένω στο Bury, που είναι επίσης μια μικρή πόλη κοντά στο Μάντσεστερ. Έχω γενέθλιά στις δεκατέσσερις Μαΐου, το ζώδιο μου είναι Ταύρος. Είμαι δάσκαλος. Διδάσκω γαλλικά και ισπανικά σ’ένα γυμνάσιο. Στον ελεύθερο χρόνο μου μ’αρέσει να σερφάρω στο διαδίκτυο, να βλέπω τηλεόραση, να διαβάζω και να ακούω μουσική. Μ`αρέσει και να σπουδάζω ξένες γλώσσες. Μαθαίνω Ελληνικά για αρκετά χρόνια. Μ`αρέσει επίσης να ταξιδεύω. Έχω πάει σε πολλές χώρες της Δυτικής Ευρώπης. Έχω επισκεφθεί αρκετές χώρες της Ανατολικής Ευρώπης. Ἠμουν επίσης στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες και το δυο χιλιἀδες δἐκα πήγα στην Κίνα.Το καλοκαίρι πήγα στη Βραζιλία και στην Αργεντινή. Η Βραζιλία είναι η αγαπημένη μου χώρα. Δεν έχω πάει ποτέ στην Ελλάδα, αλλά ελπίζω να πάω εκεί σύντομα. Δεν μ'αρέσει το σπορ, αν και μ'άρεσε να παίζω μπάντμιντον και μπορούσα να παίζω αρκετά καλά. Τα αγαπημένα μου ζώα είναι οι γάτες. Όταν ήμουν μικρός η οικογένεια μου είχε εννέα/εννιά γάτες. Μου αρέσουν επίσης τα πάντα. Μια μέρα θα ήθελα/θα ήθελα κάποτε να πάω στο Τσενγκντού στην Κίνα για να επισκεφθώ το καταφύγιο του γιγάντιου πάντα. Είναι επίσης/μάλιστα δυνατό για ένα άτομο να δουλέψει εκεί εθελοντικά/ Επίσης/μαλιστα μπορείς να δουλέψεις εκεί ως εθελοντής. Τέλος, μ'αρέσει πολύ η σοκολάτα. Δεν μ'αρέσουν τα σπορ - a general comment, you use the plural εννέα/εννιά -choose one of the two, both are correct Μια μέρα θα ήθελα/θα ήθελα κάποτε -both are ok, but the first a bit better. Είναι επίσης/μάλιστα δυνατό για ένα άτομο... -μάλιστα is better here Επίσης/μαλιστα μπορείς να δουλέψεις εκεί.... -both fine! I think you have earned yourself the right to be called Στέφανος!
