Does anyone have an answer key to Clyde Pharr's Homeric Greek - A Book for
Beginners?
The book is in the public domain, and copies are available on
TextKit. I see lots of on-line
references to an answer key from Greek Geek, but that site is defunct.
I love the idea of Pharr - learning Greek through reading the Iliad. But I really
could use an answer key! I also posted on TextKit, but their forums aren't as active as
HTLAL.

Someone sent me copies of the old web pages; I'm converting them to a pdf file and I'll
post for others who might need them.
I can't figure out why the web.archive links to Greek Geek work for some but not for
others. I wonder if it's a regional thing? I always get internal error messages.

Done, and I uploaded the answer key to two places:
Google Drive
and Drop Box
I assume these are public domain; if not, let me know and I'll take them down.

And here's a sample, from Lesson 5. We're not in Pimsleur anymore!
Greek to English
1. We are singing the plans of many goddesses.
2. The terrible roar of the cruel sea is not pleasing to the soul of the goddess.
3. Who is dishonoring the beautiful goddesses?
4. We are not dishonoring the fatherland, for it is dear.
5. They are going from Cilla to Chrysa.
6. Are they burning many pyres in Chrysa by the sea?
7. We have many good plans.
8. Are you burning pyres in the fatherland?
9. You two loose; you (sg.) loose; we loose; they loose; you (pl.) loose
10. We are destroying many wicked souls in the dear fatherland.
11. Who sends goddesses into Chrysa?
12. You are fulfilling the beautiful plans for the dear fatherland.
13. We are fullfilling the will of the lovely goddess.
14. We are making a funeral pyre.
15. What do you bring? What do they bring?
English to Greek
1. τίς ἀείδει κακὰς βουλὰς καλάων θεάων;
2. κλαγγὴ θαλάσσης ἁνδάνει ψυχῇ θεᾶς ἐν Κίλλῃ.
3. οὐκ ἀτιμάζομεν θεὰς πάτρης φίλης.
4. βαίνετε ἐκ Χρύσης εἰς Κίλλαν ἐπὶ θαλάσσῃ;
12. πυρὴν τεύχει.
13. τί φέρει;

Just curious, but, the greek under the headlines "Illiad", are that translation from English or just a copy of what is in
the books?

Pharr's Homeric Greek has a lot of selections from Homer, but that doesn't start until
Chapter 12. So I'm not sure what those are in the Answer Key, if they're exercises or
selections. I can't read 'em yet. I'm only on Chapter 6, and all I can tell you is that
the beautiful sea goddess just made a horrible noise.

At least you made me smile! I can tell you that the wool is in the house of the queen's woman-servant in Akkadian if
you want!
