So, this is my first TAC and I am very excited about it :)

My name is Ana, I am a Brazilian married to a Dane. I have been studying Danish on my
own since July 2012 - about a month before we moved to Denmark. We have been living in
Brazil and Malta before, and I have been to Denmark a couple of times before moving
there. It was not really hard talking to my husband's family and friends or going
around there, since most people in Denmark speak English. But of course, it is not the
same of speaking their language, especially when we are planning to live there for a
while.

I am really enjoying to learn Danish, even though it is quite hard sometimes. I am not
the self-disciplined type, but since I've started, I'm managing studying almost every
day. I think it will be a little harder to keep my habits now, since we are spending a
time in Brazil and I am not completely immersed in a Danish-speaking enviromnent
anymore. But I am planning to stick to my studies, and I have no doubt this challenge
is going to help me on it. I hope I will have had improved a lot when we go back to
Denmark in March, when I am going to start to take regular classes.

I think I have made some progress so far, but my skills are quite unbalanced. I can
understand a lot of what I read and some of what I hear, but I struggle a lot to speak.
I think it reflects the way I have been studying: I love reading, so I am always
checking Danish newspapers and have just started reading a book in Danish. I also watch
some Danish tv regularly, but I spend very little time with conversation. I have tried
to keep talking in Danish to my husband everyday, but sooner or later I always stop
doing it

So, by now, my goal is to accomplish the following tasks every day:

*** reading at least 3 pages of the book + 2 newspaper articles

*** watching at least 1 hour of Danish programs

*** studying my Anki deck and adding 10 new words every day

*** talking at least 30 minutes in Danish

*** writing at least 1 post on my blog every week

I hope we all will have a great time learning languages this year.

Tips and corrections are always welcome!

Vi ses :)

Ana

Hey :)

This looks like a very good plan to me,plus, you're among the lucky ones that have somebody to talk to in their target language. May the Viking force be with you! ;) I'll be following your progress.

Hey, welcome to team Viking! Good luck with your studies, it seems like you have a good plan. Read Kez's log thoroughly, it seems that you're in a similar situation and you can find some inspiration there. Interstingly enough, you both define your (daily) goals in a similar way :).

Hej AnaV!

As Julie said, we're in quite a similar situation so it's going to be fun following
your log and seeing how you're doing.

I'm doing something quite similar at the moment. I have a '30 day challenge' with
myself to do a certain amount of reading/listening/speaking & watching per day. What
helps me is that I have a small calender, and every day when I've done everything I had
to do I put a red cross on the date. After a while this will become a long line of red
crosses and will keep me motivated to do my Swedish tasks because I wouldn't want to
break the line. It's a bit motivation for me hehe ^^

Can't wait to read about your progression!

Welcome to the Vikings!

Here I am again! And actually not very satisfied with my performance last week

I am taking a quite demanding statistics-related course at the moment, so I dedicated a
much shorter time than the planned to learn Danish. The only day I did all the
activities was Monday :(

As a positive point, I managed to do at least one of the activities every day -
so I still kept a regular contact with the language :)

Anyway, the course is going to last a couple of weeks, so I have decided to cut down my
goals a little bit, to be able to really stick to them:

*** reading at least 1 page of the book + 1 newspaper article (aloud to my husband,
whenever is possible)

*** watching at least 30 minutes of Danish programs

*** studying my Anki deck and adding 10 new words every day

*** talking at least 30 minutes in Danish - this one I really want to stick to,
as I feel speaking is my main challenge right now

I want to start writing on my blog again, and also on my Team Viking's page, but I just
feel it is quite impossible right now. I hope I'm going to be able to do it soon :)
