Romanian in my experience is much more like French and Italian. Sure, it borrowed some

Some Romanian and French words are identical, such as Salut meaning hello in both

The main thing is that for me the difference between Romanian and other Romance languages is not that significant. Of course it's partly due to my experience with the Slavic languages, but the OP has it as well.
