Inspired by my all-time favorite thread about cool science podcasts in French, I'd like to ask you about interesting podcasts about social and political issues. Any recommendations will be very much appreciated :).

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but this site has alot of current events/human interest/ general news stories. You can listen live or check out the recordings.

One podcast I love listening to is RFI's Géopolitque - le débat. They dicuss all kinds of geopolitical issues, usually two topics per week à 40 min each, coming in two installments of 20 min each. The last few topics include: Qatar, Sahel/Sahara, Energie et tensions internationales, Israel, Cuba, les défis du second mandat de Barack Obama, sommet UE.

At France Culture and RFI you will find many podcasts discussing societal and political topics, mostly pertaining to France and Africa. Browse through the list and see whether you find something you're interested in. If you do, please let us know here!

@Darklight1216

Thanks for the link, it's not what I was looking for but it's still interesting.

I'll try to state more clearly what I'm looking for.

I think I'd be interested mostly in talking/analytic podcasts. Unscripted conversations on a variety of socially relevant topics would be the best. I'm more interested in podcasts which feature experts than politicians.

Other than that, I like documentaries/reportages.

Any interesting regular podcasts on society/politics may be interesting, though. :)

@Bakunin, thank you for reminding me of "Géopolitique"; I liked it quite a lot but completely forgot about it.

RFI is my staple French website, I would recommend reportages (e.g. Grand reportage - I usually just browse through the list of episodes to find topics I'm interested in), C'est pas du vent (environmental issues), Accents d'europe (great and simple podcast with short interesting news from European countries, usually ca. 5 topics in less than 20 minutes: politics, society, culture; the only problem is I listened to much of it and can't really stand the format anymore).

When I'm thinking about it, I'm probably looking for a podcast which would offer a similar choice and variety of topics as "Accent d'Europe" but discussed in more detail.

GLOSS has some texts with audio on these topics... Don't tell anyone but yesterday I read one about a French bank in Africa...

100% agree, especially "no politicians"

I don't know if video is of any interest to you, but here are a couple of current affairs TV programs I enjoy (or used to).

C dans l'air

and

28 Minutes

I don't know if they're available in all countries. ARTE videos are only available for 7 days. I also like "Les dessous des cartes" although it has gone all wishy-washy, political correct and environmentally sound for the last few years, but there was a good one on vietnam recently)

28 minutes has certain format traits that many french discussion programmes have, that can get a bit irritatingjust because they're so common. (It's just wierd, so many of them have a "chroniquer", I think he's called, who presents a short sort of semi entertaining "intermission", and stuff. I just like things without gimmicks)

Sorry, don't know any audio on social issues, but La danse des mots is always interesting about the French language and the Francophonie.

Almost forgot Radio Canada is a good source. "Euromag" nay be something similat to "Accents d'Europe", it's a mix of current affairs and news reports from French, Belgian and Swiss sources

Europe 1 Midi is often interesting, though they cover an extremely wide range of subjects. It tends to be a fairly conversational show.
