I gather Rosetta Stone, Fluenz and, maybe, Tell Me More are the popular ones.. what about some other options like Strokes?

I reckon most people here don't like language learning software but books with audio or just audio (e.g. Pimsleur). is there any particular reason for this tendency?. mobility and what else?. Rosetta Stone contents tend to be pretty basic and some Tell Me More versions are really bad, I got that, but book and audio courses (even Assimil) have the same problem with some of their versions. afair Assimil had some software versions as well but they weren't really popular. is there a specific "why"?

Looking at their page it seems that they have programs for many rare languages, I would be definitely be interested in a review by a forum member.
