Day two. Today I've read a less boring text. In fact, I was quite nervous when I was reading, and that could
affect my pronunciation. Well, anyway, here we go: click Another phonology tip. One of the scary friends of th is ng. Well, was. I'm not at all sure if I'll follow the instructions, cause I can just forget about the sound, but I am interested in getting a good ng sound. I never thought about "ng" as being a difficult sound! Learn something new everyday! Listening to your recordings, when you speak slowly, the ng sound is much clearer. Just make sure the back of the tongue touches the soft palette each time and it will be much more consistent.

"ng" doesn't exist in Russian. Most of them approximate the sound by producing n + hard g. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Fuenf_Katzen, phonology is generally explained bad here. I had not a slightest idea that t in English is alveolar until very recently, for example. I can't remember the exact description of how to pronounce ng that I've read 10 years ago, but it was horrifying and after a few attempts of pronouncing it I just stopped to think about it.
____________ Summary for spring: 1) Active English as in reading, talking and writing, including a bilingual presentation 2) Passive English as in listening to songs and watching series (Wallander (all seasons), The Americans (all seasons), Daria (first season), maybe smth else that I've forgotten already) 3) Passive German as in listening to songs and audiobooks (quite a little of second, speaking honestly) 4) Passive Swedish as in watching series (Wallander + Eng subs) 5) Picking up Greek as a new TL with just a little of real actions (still not sure if I know the alphabet, I tend to say no) 6) Another little actions with some other European languages That looks like a little and I'm not that kind of person which will be finding comfort in sayings "others don't do even that little", so I really hope to do better this summer once I'll deal with university stuff. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Some German activity as opening an Assimil book and a few tries of
reading stuff from there aloud. During that I've found out that my vocabulary isn't that bad as I thought (only 2 unknown words in lesson 16, for example) and that I still haven't forgotten some essential grammar. For more serious stuff I just have to wait until the beginning of July, but I think that I might peek in the Assimil from time to time. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I got in my university early as usual, I was really bored and unable to
study (aka read chromatography lectures), so after a while I tuned on Auferstehen Soll In Herrlichkeit and watered plants in Memrise. Mostly it was good, I forgot only two important words but in the end of the session mistakes were coming from everywhere and I didn't know what to do about them. It was fun anyway, I don't see how it can disturb my university stuff, so maybe, maybe I'll try to do some Memrise every day. I have tried this before, and every time I failed to stand more than a week. Eh... Sometimes I wonder how good could I be at languages if only I weren't that lazy, ugh. 1 person has voted this message useful |
