What are the languages used - both globally and locally - by the mining industry?
English and Spanish are obvious answers, but I am particularly looking for input about
the importance of more "local" languages... what about Swahili, Afrikaans, Mongolian,
Indonesian, etc.?

As I'm sure you're aware, Wilco, the vast majority of the world's mining companies are
headquartered in Canada. So, I think you've got Canada's languages covered. :)
It seems that Chinese miners are being employed everywhere, from Canada to Africa,
so perhaps Mandarin in addition to any local languages.
