Vengo dall’Italia settentrionale.

We've got what you mean, but I would advise you to use the term "eccitato" with a degree of caution, because in Italian it also means "to be sexually aroused"...

I have a question that I'm going to ask in English for fear of making a mistake in Italian (in case I haven't made enough already).

"Lei che cosa vorebbe mangiare?" - this is correct grammatically when talking to/at someone directly, even though it's in the third person Conditional. But if I were to speak informally would this be the grammatically correct question: "tu che cosa vorresti mangiare?"

Also, is it just an unexplainable feature of Italian that people must speak in the third person to be polite? Is it rude, or very rude, to ask someone something in the second person? Could I instead say: "tu che cosa vuoi mangiare?"?

In any of these examples above, would it also be correct if I dropped the pronoun? In effect, making it just "che cosa voerebbe mangiare?" / "che cosa vorresti mangiare?" / "che cosa vuoi mangiare?"

I should know these things coming from an Italian family, but I don't and I need to clear it up ASAP.
