Just FYI that Pimsleur does have a level 1 (ie, 30 lessons) Finnish course. I'm well beyond needing it, but I bought it anyway a few months ago to get some accent training/reinforce good pronunciation.
For listening and reading, you can use Selkouutiset (slow spoken news for foreigners). It comes with a transcript. http://yle.fi/selkouutiset/ Innovative Language has a FinnishPod101. http://www.finnishpod101.com/ For print books, I've used Mastering Finnish by Vähämäki (Worked well for me, but has middling reviews) Teach Yourself Finnish by Leney (Picked it up used after I already knew quite a bit) I started learning Finnish back in 1996. I'm amazed now that I managed to get beyond a beginner because I would find it hard even in our currently over-connected world to figure out how to start! So I wish you good luck!
