....and picks up a new one! My goal is to hit B2 level in Italian on all levels!

Hi! I'm Leslie, a I'm a 19 year old girl from Michigan. Nice to meetcha! Piacere di
conoscerti! :P

For roughly the past 2 1/2 months (I started roughly around August 17th or so), I have
been learning Italian, and it's been a fun struggle. I would say I'm roughly at the
borderline A1/A2 level now, my skills definitely stronger in reading/writing than
speaking and listening.

Here's a list of the materials I've been using-

Duolingo: An EXCELLENT resource. Now that I've started this log, I want to keep up
with at least 2 lessons a day if possible. http://www.duolingo.com/Pratica

Pimsleur: A way to improve my listening and speaking, I'm currently on lesson 9. What
I aim to do is to repeat each lesson until I fully understand the content, or at least
most of it. Speaking is definitely not my strong suit, so I hope to improve it through
this at least somewhat.

Michel Thomas: My use of this is sporadic, to say the least, but I find them
entertaining and a good way to pick up new vocab.

iTalki: I plan on writing at LEAST one journal a week. Here's my profile on there.

Skype: I believe I have my skype name on here, but PLEASE add me as a contact and tell
me who you are/where you're from before sending me messages and such. I'd love to
practice my Italian with you!

LWT: I LOVE LOVE LOVE LWT. It's been invaluable for translating song lyrics and other
fun Italian materials, which are serving to keep me motivated. On that note....

Italian songs, movies, readings, etc. Right now, I'm currently learning the lyrics to
"Le Forbici" by il Triangolo, a really great, catchy song, as well as watching La
Meglio Gioventu. It's really helping me get into the culture of Italy. I'm also
planning on picking up "The Little Prince", or "Il Piccolo Principe" in Italian!

Thank you for reading! I hope this log will at least be somewhat entertaining!

Today wasn't that exciting on the learning front, mostly due to the fact that I had to
go Christmas shopping and what not.

1 Lesson of Duolingo:

Screw Present Perfect. There, I said it. It's making life very difficult for me. I
only completed one lesson today due to it, and it's just kicking my ass. It's not that
I don't understand the concept, because on the mobile version of duolingo (where it's
drag and drop) I can blaze through the lesson(s). I just can't seem to do it when I'm
forced to translate directly. I always mess up word order and who exactly is speaking
and gahhhhhhhh. Verb tenses, why are you so difficult??

LWT: General review.

Duolingo Verbs 3:
"Le Forbici" Lyrics:

Pimsleur: Cheated a bit today and didn't listen to the whole lesson, but I'm finding
it easier to respond quicker. I consider Lesson 9 finished today, and will go onto
Lesson 10 tomorrow.

I've been listening to a lot of Italian versions of Disney songs today. It's really
fun, and it's encouraging when I get the vocab and understand a sentence without
translation. :>

Today, I'd consider not very productive. :( Hopefully tomorrow I"ll focus more on
tackling the difficulties known as Present Perfect, and watch a Disney movie in Italian
only.

I love Le petit prince! Hmmm…I've never thought of looking for it in Spanish. Thanks for the idea!

Good luck learning Italian! I look forward to reading your log.

Le Petit Prince is the de facto children's book for French, so I'd figure I'd try it for
Italian.

Thank you! :)

Hello, corjine.

I see you've stacked up for winter. Quite a collection you've got there.

If you're willing to try children's classics, I'd like to suggest Le avventure di Pinocchio, by Carlo Collodi. You don't get more Italian than that. :)

Best of luck to you. Have fun learning.

Nothing too special today, just some more Duolingo and Pimsleur.

Duolingo: Oh Present Perfect. I'm starting to understand you more, finally and thank
god, but your irregularities are still haunting my dreams.

Pimsleur: Lesson 10 today. Will review it again tomorrow.

It's a lot easier to just try to not be aggravated at irregularities. It helps me to think that once upon a time they were regular but the centuries have bleached some, especially the most used forms, and that's why it is "so" and not "sapo".
