What's the difference between guardian angel and godfather?
As it's already been said, it's just the name. For example, Cristina was happy to get to be a godmother. I'm 23 and I'd rather be a guardian angel :D

I'm interested in teaming for all of my languages.

Dutch - B2 - Definitely in for this one. I'm also willing to make the thread, lead the team, etc. if no one else
expresses interest.

Indonesian - A0 (bleh) - I don't expect there to be enough interest for a team, but if anyone would like to do
a tandem or something like that I won't say no.

French - A2? - Currently recovering the B2 I had a few years ago.

As this is the sign-up thread, I'll try to be as pragmatic as possible.

I'll be participating with:
Italian: currently C1, aiming at C2
Arabic: hard to evaluate; let's say B1, aiming at B2
Sanskrit: beginner, aiming at A2

I can be godfather / guardian angel / guru for:
- European Portuguese
- Brazilian Portuguese (in the unlikely case the "galera" does not volunteer)

Some short notes:
- For Sanskrit, you can add me to the Rare Languages group. It would be nice to have someone else learning Indo-Aryan languages there. Anyone?
- I think a Middle Eastern group is a poor idea (sorry Zireael, you've been great). Arabic, yes. Semitic, ok. More, no.
- I'd rather have "the Persians" with "my" Sanskrit. Maybe turn Indo-Aryan into Indo-Iranian.

I've been around here for quite awhile, but haven't ever participated in this. I suppose it's time to try it out!

Spanish: A1 -> B2

I'll see how the year goes. I may add Portuguese study as well, but I'll have to play it by ear.

So here are my language goals for the year in approximate order of when I'll be
tackling them:

Irish: Continue working up to a solid intermediate level (around B1, some B2
skills if possible). I plan on focusing on it for at least the first 3 months of the
year. I may do a summer 5-day immersion session with Language Hunters if they do it
again this year depending on my budget and PTO balance (a Gaeltacht trip is on the list
but further in the future - summer 2015 at the earliest I think).

Spanish: Get back into studying Spanish more intensively and get to an upper
intermediate to advanced level (at least in comprehension) from my current
intermediate/novice hybrid. After the first 3 months of the year I'll probably switch
to a Spanish focus for about 3 months at least. I'm saving for a potential Guatemala
trip for sometime around mid to late Spring for 2 weeks of one-on-one language classes.
But I'll definitely get more proactive about taking advantage of speaking opportunities
while I'm home as well.

French: Continue maintaining and enhancing my level. I think this will be the
year I finally take the DALF (possible in June but will probably wait until next
December), though that will depend on funds after all my "globetrotting". I can
definitely pass C1 with some preparation for the format but I would like to be at a C2
level. I'm currently not utilizing all my skills on a regular enough basis to really
acquire C2 so I'll need to look for ways to push myself while still working on
everything else.

"Bonus" languages:

Sgaw Karen: I'm still volunteering as an ESL tutor for a Burmese (ethnic Karen)
refugee and I'd like to learn some of her language. I have a lot on my plate but I'd
like to get acquire basics (plus the Burmese script is really cool).

Portuguese: Portuguese is definitely on my hit list. I already have a full
language itinerary (more than full, actually) but if I find time or get bored I can see
doing a quick introductory course to get some fundamentals and maybe start dabbling in
Portuguese language tracks if I have DVDs that have them. Otherwise I'll save it for
next year or the year after.

I'd be interested in joining a Dutch team. It's my first time learning a foreign language, and I'd estimate that my levels would be around:
Reading - B1 / B2
Listening - A2 / B1
Writing - A2
Speaking - A2

I really need to reach B2/C1 in my active skills, and preferably C1/C2 in my passive skills as I plan on living / working / studying in The Netherlands.

Yes! It looks like you're already well on your way. :-)

Edit: So, just an informal headcount for Team Dutch: NMW, Serpent, fabriciocarraro, and myself have all
expressed interest. I think geoffw is figuring out his plans. I've also sent out PMs to all the other Dutch learners
who've updated their logs recently.

(Julie - I tried to PM you, but I got a message saying your inbox is full. Thoughts?)

Hey my friends!!!

This 2014, as always, I'll be trying to maintain my current languages and pick at least 1 new to study, and maybe another one to play with. But, if I'll join a team, that would be for the following languages:

Russian: currently B2, goal solid C1

Dutch: currently A2/B1, goal solid B2

German: currently A0, goal B1

Japanese: currently A0, goal A2/B1-

I probably won't join all of those teams, but at least some of them =)
