Thank you so much for these detailed and interesting explanations, Tarvos.

I think I have to find a subtle way to make my Flemish colleague say "verf" now to hear this in practice....poor guy...he is my guinea pig...

Hekje, I'm so sorry it wasn't clear....
As far as I had understood, "en stoemelings" means you do something not the proper way (you do not follow the
official rules) and thus keep it secret. You don't tell anyone (= je bent stom). In my example a colleague needed a
specific task to be completed. But if she had asked her colleagues and had waited for their answers, her project
would have been delayed. So she did this task quickly herself (trying not to make it public. But I caught her:-)).
Has this become a bit clearer?

Haha, wow, that's so cute! I love that. I guess the extra e in "stoemelings" threw me off a little.

This actually put a huge smile on my face at work. Thank you for explaining!

Beginner's luck, maybe? ;) Jokes aside, I (think I) have a good ear for sounds. That's it.

Hey all,

Translation:

I want to write something here only because I want to follow team oranje. I have studied a bit of Dutch in the past and perhaps in 2015 or thereabouts I will work in improving it again. Thanks for the websites and information, programs and so forth which I shall use next year perhaps. Good luck!

-------------
As a side note i'm tempted by wanderlust. I'm doing French at the moment and am sorely missing Dutch, altho I do enjoy French very much so. I have a definite soft spot for Dutch tho. But I have sworn not to pick up another language until I at least reach B2 in French, as I found juggling multiple languages in the past just didn't cut it in terms of making serious progress. So until then... which it may very well be mission B2 in Dutch. So I shall work hard in French to get back to my Dutch! I wish you all the best!

Tot de volgende keer!
Until next time

in Maastricht gewoond (2011).
Frans sneller leren!

PM

ooops... forgot to translate:

Thanks a lot Hekje, very nice of you,

I hope that your Dutch is going well? good luck!

I began studying Dutch around ten years ago, but that doesn't mean a lot as I only studied (actively learned
Dutch) around 8 out of those 10 years (max). Moreover I didn't do all that time together (in one long lineal
path). Therefore I've done a lot of my (Dutch) courses twice. My wife and I also lived in Maastricht for five
months. I hope that we return to live in Holland in a few years, but who knows at the moment (always have a
lot of dreams!). These days sometimes it's not so difficult to write in Dutch, I find. But now I've also begun to
forget words. I must learn French faster!

Copied straight from Pesahson over at Team Sokoły (Thanks Pesahson!), and thought this would be a great way
of getting a little practice in for all of us also. So if you feel like a bit of extra practice, feel free to answer these as
thoroughly or concisely as you please. Geniet ervan!

1.     What do you most often do when you're on the Internet?

2.     What was the last thing you've read about (blog, article) or listened to (podcast, radio) about?

3.     What is the biggest news story in your country right now?

4.     What was the last conversation you had about?

5.     Do you like to know what's always going on in the world or do you find news depressing/irritating?

6.     Are you a morning or a night person?

7.     What is the first thing you do when you get to work/school?

8.     How do you get to work/school and how much time does it take you?

9.     What is an absolute must-see in your city/country?

10.     What is the best thing about your city/country?

Ooh, I love the survey Vos! I want to do this later, but for now, I'll drop a poem for our February challenge.

Rotown magic

By Jules Deelder

Rotterdam is niet te filmen
De beelden wisselen te snel
Rotterdam heeft geen verleden
en geen enkele trapgevèl

Rotterdam is niet romantisch
heeft geen tijd voor flauwekul
is niet vatbaar voor suggesties
luistert niet naar slap gelul

't Is niet camera-gevoelig
lijkt niet mooier dan het is
Het ligt vierkant hoog en hoekig
gekanteld in het tegenlicht

Rotterdam is geen illusie
door de camera gewekt
Rotterdam is niet te filmen
Rotterdam is vééls te ècht

English

Rotterdam is unfilmable
The images change too quickly
Rotterdam has no past
And not one "stair gable"

Rotterdam is not romantic
Has no time for nonsense
It isn't open to suggestions
Doesn't listen to bulls***

It isn't photogenic
Doesn't seem prettier than it is
It lies square, high, and angular
Tilted in the backlighting

Rotterdam is no illusion
Awakened by a camera
Rotterdam is unfilmable
Rotterdam is much too real

...Anyone else agree? I do find Rotterdam pretty intimidating, actually. :-P
