log

I'm probably still upper intermediate in Japanese. My goals for this year are to learn more vocab / grammar, read more books, get better at listening comprehension, that sort of thing. A big challenge will be consistency.

My log is here.

I'll update the title once every team I'm signed up for decides on a team name to save me
from editing the title a million times.

I just wanted to pop in and say that I signed up to join this team - my log is
here. I
tried to post earlier but the server ate my post.

I've taken Japanese before but it was only for a semester and it was years ago. I have
also dabbled in it off and on since then. I'm using Genki as well as Kanji Look and
Learn as my two textbooks at the moment. I am also using Anki, Memrise, and Skritter
for memorization. Memrise is better for my short term memory and Anki is better for my
medium and long term memory - also managed to start Anki a week after I started
studying Japanese again this time (which was a few weeks ago).

My goal is to, at the least, get through both Genki textbooks. Right now I'm on Chapter
3 (of 12) in Genki 1. Depending on where I'm at in November, I may register to take one
of the JLPT tests as one of the places they are administered is Seattle, WA which is
only about three hours north of where I live.

Either way, the biggest challenge of all is going to be keeping up with my studying
through the next 12 months.

How cool! I will also be going through Genki so it's nice there will be other team members working on
the same material:) I didn't know that JLPT tests were administered in the US. :o I might add that to my
goals of things to work towards...though I don't really know what passing the levels means. Is it good
for a resume or something?

I hear that N2 and N1 are required fro some jobs. The rest are just stepping stones
along the way but you don't need to take the preceding ones ... you can just dive in at
any point you like.

Whether they'll be useful on the CV depends I suppose on whether your interviewer has
any idea what they might be!

I've no plans to work in Japan so they are of little practical use to me. I do find,
however, that I work more effectively when I have a concrete goal, so I've been using
them as milestones on my path to ... well, wherever I end up with Japanese :-)

Good luck with Genki. I've never used that series so it'll be interesting to see what
you think of it as you progress in 2014.

Link to my log. I'll be using this log
again this year. I'll change the title soon!

明けましておめでとう!

EDIT: I've fixed the faulty link, finally.

You need to leave out the http://how-to-learn-any-language.com/forum/, as otherwise it will not work =/
