I found the "Glaoch an Cheoil" series on TG4 a couple of days ago.
"In this ground breaking new 8 part series, we set out to bring music into the lives of people who always wanted to learn to play an instrument but never had the opportunity. Now by pairing them with unwanted and discarded instruments, which have been lying in sheds, attics and under dusty beds, they get their chance." So far, six episodes have been shown (~25 minutes each). The four mentors (Liz Doherty, Fergal Ó Murchú, Colm Ó Snodaigh and Johnny McCarthy) are famous musicians, as are some of the teachers volunteering (e.g. Diarmuid Moynihan of Calico fame). http://www.tg4.ie/en/programmes/glaoch-an-cheoil/glaoch-home .html Stay tuned for the last two episodes (the final one will feature a concert for the president). 3 persons have voted this message useful | |

Thanks, sounds great! It would be interesting for me to watch as I want to learn Irish
flute and tin whistle. *edit* And watching episode 2 where they actually start playing it's hilarious to see everyone getting scales except the flutes who are still trying to get sound. It looks like a brilliant series, Jeff. My wife and I just started watching and are already mourning our musical instruments back in the UK (for me that's the guitar, and for her the lap harp). TG4 never fails to amaze me!

I've now watched the last two episodes as well. I got positively surprised that so many spoke Irish. OK, it's TG4 but still; apart from a handful of aspiring musicians and a few of the teachers/visiting teachers, everyone had Irish.
