We’ve reached the half-way point of TAC 2014, so I guess it’s time for everyone in team Asgard to come back and report on what’s been achieved in the first half of the year and what’s ahead for the coming months. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t been particularly active on the forum or if you haven’t studied much since January: it’s never too late to get back on track and make the most of the TAC experience. And your teammates are still here and eager to cheer you on. So, here’s July’s challenge: update us on your TAC so far and on your projects for the future (bonus point for adding at least a sentence in your TL). Hallo alle sammen!
Jeg lærer fortsatt en litt norsk til hver dag. Jeg synes det er vanskelig å merke noen forbedring nå. Kanskje har jeg kommet til et platå, men det er vanskelig å fatte likevel. Jeg leser 10 sider på en norsk roman og ser på en del av en episode av TV-programmet 'I kveld med ylvis' (omtrent 14:30 min) hver dag. Dessverre klarer jeg ikke å skrive og snakke hva som helst på norsk. Jeg bare skriver noen setninger med kompiser på chat-en, men får ingen korreksjoner. Derfor kan jeg ikke akkurat bevitne hvor er norsken min nå. Noen gang tror jeg jeg er nær ved å nå B2, men andre ganger synes jeg jeg forstar nesten ingenting av det jeg hører på. Allikevel, jeg trenger å øve litt mer. Det hadde vært verre i de foregående månedene og i de siste to uker har jeg klart å utføre de ovennevnte oppgavene mer oppmerksomt Allikevel, jeg planer å bruke en bok til, 'Learn Norwegian', som har mange teskter som passer bra med B2 aktiviteter. 2 persons have voted this message useful | ||||||

Jag har köpt en svenk bok från bokus.com som heter Hundraåringen som klev ut genom fönstret och försvann. Den borde ja få om en-två dagar och då ska jag läsa den på sommaren. Det ska bli en bra övning tror jag. Jag är glad med min framsteg hittills, men jag kunde ha gört mer... Jag är nästan klar med Assimil, och jag ska börja med Pimsleur igen nästa vecka. Har filmen kommit på bio i Italien ännu? Jag har inte läst boken, men jag såg filmen på bio (på svenska) i Frankrike igår. Riktigt rolig! Jag tycker det inte, jag bara sökte "swedish books" på Google igår, och den där boken hade många fina recensioner. Det ska faktiskt bli mycket svårt (den här är min första boken som jag vill läsa hela), men jag ska läsa bara tre eller fyra sidor om dagen. I have my own personal 60-day challenge for Danish and Norwegian. In two months, my girlfriend and I will take a week-long trip to Norway and Denmark, so I aim to find out how much Danish and Norwegian I can learn between now and then. I had originally planned to study until I was confident with at least one Skandinavian language before going, but the little kid in me couldn’t wait. I’m not very good at either Danish or Norwegian, so the challenge is daunting, but exhilarating. For Danish, I'm hammering away at my pronunciation course, "Dansk udtale øvebog", but recognizing and duplicating the many subtly different sounds of the vowels e, æ, ø and å is giving me fits. In addition, my attempts at generating stød have been laughable to this point, but I derive encouragement from the immortal words of Johnny Rotten, who once said "You should always go where you're not wanted. There's more to achieve." Following this logic, the utter disdain Danish has shown for my efforts to pronounce it and the bitter resistance it’s offered can only mean that there are rewards of previously undreamed of proportion in store for me, should I succeed. As further preparation for my Scandinavian linguistic baptism of fire, in lieu of investing years in systematic, disciplined study, I'm watching all three seasons of both "Forbrydelsen" and "Borgen" with Danish subtitles and listening to Danish Harry Potter in the car. I’m using the TV news on dr.dk and a seven-part documentary about Danish fighter pilots to test my comprehension and I’m also trying to decipher the articles in Politiken while periodically slogging through my Danish Anki deck. For Norwegian, I'm watching “Dag” with Norwegian subtitles and I've ordered a pronunciation course from Norway, but it hasn’t come yet. I probably won't get very far with it, but I thought I'd give it a shot, anyway. Maybe I'll even go back and do my Norwegian Pimsleur course again. Or Norwegisch Aktiv. As a last resort, I guess I can always show up over there speaking English with a British accent, so I can at least get some kind of (pathetic) foreign language thrill out of it. I really, really don’t want to have to resort to that, though. In order to avoid such a debacle, I know I’m definitely going to need lots of embarrassing conversation practice pronto. I've already got a list if Italki tutors lined up and credts in my account., so all I have to do now is have the guts to start scheduling sessions. In Norway we plan to hike up to preikestolen and trace my ancestry in the archives at Stavanger. In Denmark I want to see the Tollund man in Silkeborg, the runestones in Jelling, the Viking ship museum in Roskilde and the National Museum in Copenhagen. Then we want to ride bikes around our favorite Borgen venues in Copenhagen and take a taxi across the Øresund Bridge, so we can both gawk out the window simultaneously. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

If you’re wanting to learn Danish pronunciation, you might find these videos helpful. Some are better than others and you can’t always read what’s written on the board, but I found a lot of the content useful.
