Hej hej.
Thanks everyone. I'm alredy following all of your very interesting blogs, btw. I'm not much of a poster myself, but a good reader for sure :) Swedish: This week I managed to do an Assimil lesson varje dag. No particular difficulties encountered, except a few prepositions, like: fem dagar i veckan, tjugotvå gånger i månader, but elva månader om året. So that's that. I've seen a couple of movies, thanks to Emme (jag älskar dig), such as Jag vill ha allt and Karl-Bertlin Jonssons julafton. The latter was a bit tougher than the first one. I wasn't able to understand every single dialoge but with the help of subtitles I could get a lot of information. This is also a pretty interesting (and entertaining), thing to watch Zillah och Totte German: I had to slow down a bit with German vocabulary, my other studies are taking a lot of time, so I reduced the words to 30 a day. But I bought the Assimil course on amazon a few days ago, and I hope it will arrive on Wednesday, so I can begin to actually use the language. There is one preposition that can replace i and om, per (+basic form of the time expression - no need to use the definite ending):
fem dagar per vecka, tjugotvå gånger per månad, elva månader per år (short form: 5d/v, 22 ggr/mån, 11 mån/år) To me, they are pretty much interchangeable. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

But wouldn't that mean that the thing you do X times a week/a month/ a year you do it every week/month/year (using per)? I don't know, I might be wrong. With i/om, I get the feeling that the thing is done only once in that lapse of time (week, month, year). This is a terrible explanation, but for example: 22 gånger i veckan (I won't do it next week). 22 gånger per vecka (I'll do it next week as well). Again, I might be wrong, because I don't know. Hmm, I wouldn't say there's any difference. A third option is "varje (vecka/månad/år)".
What do native English speakers say? Is there any difference between these? Five days a week - Five days per week - Five days each week I've never even given it the slightest thought that any of the forms (in Swedish or English) implied a unique moment in time. To me, it's perfectly OK say "Jag arbetar fem dagar i veckan./Jag arbetar fem dagar per vecka./Jag arbetar fem dagar varje vecka." - with maybe a slight difference in style. dagar i veckan - 47 000 000 hits dagar per vecka - 1 170 000 hits dagar varje vecka - 319 000 hits OK, "i"+definite form of the time expression seems to most common. In the meanwhile I started the first active wave (Swedish) today!
I've found a pretty cool image, which basically shows the different "sj/sk" realisation and since I think it may be of some interest to some of you, here it is: 
I've also decided to make a fool of myself and read some assimil lessons, to keep track of my pronunciation/prosody improvements. So following this link you can listen to me reading Assimil's lesson 50. There are some pretty tough words (for me), such as sjuksköterska and jourläkere, so I hope I did okay.
